2001 Hyundai Elantra Sedan GLS 4dr Sedan (2.0L 4cyl 5M)

Review

Great 1st car. This is my 1st car and I love it. Gave me some trouble like the leaking transmission, headlight burnouts, fading dash clock, and the airbag light. I'm 18 years old and this car has been fun to drive with a decent amount of space. Other Young people like me would choose a Honda over a Hyundai but I chose the Hyundai. Still runs strong with 156,780 miles!

Best Features

Speakers would have to be my favorite feature. I like to play music loud and after I put a jvc cd player with aux input sounds great. The speakers are stock also!

Worst Features

No improvements needed!

When you own it for over a year...I bought my elantra dec 08/2000. Within 1 1/2 years had to replace right front bearing - not on warranty. This car has been a money pit. I kept up on my oil changes and warranty work at the dealer. The motor went @ 5000k over the warranty - used motor, towing and rentals - @ $5500. Hyundai did nothing to stand behind the car. Among many other things, i.e. struts, other bearing, cv joint etc., transmission went on 5th anniversary of car - $3000. I paid $15,000 for this car and have spent that much in various repairs. I have spent close to $30,000 on this car. My Mazda 323 was 7 years old before I had to spend $$$ on it. Buyer beware.

Best Features

large, comfortable interior. quick pick up on highway to merge into traffic.

Worst Features

blind side area needs improvement. better quality product

Review

Back in 2001, after a hail storm hit, we were looking for a new car. We decided to look around, and noticed Holmes (the dealer we bought from) had discounts on cars on the lot due to hail damage. Of course, we managed to get it new for 9,572 dollars due to hail damage, and a little persuasion. Love it. The only Major problem we've had was a broken thermometer. It does get a little noisy on the inside. It's 2.0 i4 gets enough Punch, and still returns good mileage. Nice exterior styling, however, the interior was slightly drab, but not too bad. Nice trunk space, and a locking gas door. Inside trunk handle is Nice. Trunk room is fantastic, and the reliability won't disappoint.

Best Features

Just about everything!

Worst Features

Could have better noise dampening, but then again I do like some noise. Interior could be slightly livelier looking.

My Hyundai has approximately 243xxx miles on it. All we've done is change the timing and drive belts every 100K miles, changed the oil every 3-4K miles, tune ups, brakes and tires. The only problems we've had was a leak in the driver door (covered by warranty), repeated replacement of windshield (some design flaw with the mirror embedded in the glass), and now, with it's age, it's leaking (not burning) about a quart of oil every 2-3 weeks. Overall I am exceptionally pleased with our purchase. Oh, the 5 speed manual is getting between 33 and 38 mpg driven mostly highway.

Best Features

Power windows, door locks, and heated door mirrors.

Worst Features

Different windshield mirror design. Embedded mirror frequently comes out of glass causing windshield cracking.

Review

72 thousand miles and transmission will not shift. But not a transmission problem. Warranty is a crock. Hey Folks you pay for what you get. Also sun visors fell off, auto locks stopped, not to mention a dash light problem. The car is simply crap. Don't risk it. Pay 3 to 5 grand more for a good car.

Best Features

When i first bought it everything....

Worst Features

None its still a throw out car...........
