I finally got to check out the new Accent hatch while at my local dealership for a (free) oil change on my 2004 Elantra GT. It was a grey SE with AT, mats, cargo mat. Overall a nice package: good-looking alloys, enough room in back for me to sit behind myself in some comfort (5'10"), very nice dash with piano black trim. However, I think Hyundai messed up in some small ... Read More
I've owned 3 Hyundais over the past 10-1/2 years: 2001 Elantra (sister owns it now), 2004 Elantra (still have it), and 2007 Sonata (wife's car). Note the two Elantras are two generations removed from the current car, and the Sonata is the prior generation. Even though Hyundais have improved with each new generation, these cars have been very reliable. I felt I was taking a chance on the 2001 Elantra back ... Read More
it would be the Versa or a 2009 Fit. The current 2008 Fit isn't in that list because the current model, which was introduced in Asia around 2000 if I recollect correctly, suffers from being a little too small and twitchy on the highway. It's a true "B" car (size category = mini, not compact) and suffers from some of the B car shortcomings, like not dealing with the freeway well. ... Read More
How about a slightly-used Civic, or Corolla (with the optional SABs? Since it's a 2nd car, they could save a bundle on a used one. In the area (Coastal Alabama) the used Civics offer no real price advantage versus a new one, and after being in my ex's 2004 and seeing the new 2009 Corolla, they don't want one... the "nothing to turn them off" that you state is actually the ... They do make the Yaris, which is the replacement for the ECHO, but it still didn't make Edmunds' Most Wanted list, or even the runner-up (that was the Versa). CR also rated the Yaris behind--WAY behind actually--both the Accent and Rio in their recent comparo test. Both Hyundais I have owned, a 2001 and 2004 Elantra, have given dependable service. My sister bought the 2001 from me last spring and she ... Read More
I can definitely say that with my old 2001 Hyundai Accent GLS, my sister's 2001 Elantra and mom's 2004 Hyundai Elantra, there is close to 0% rattle in those cars. I went over bumps and rough pavements and the cars' structure feels like its 1 piece. Its weird that the Nissan Maxima and the Acura TSX which are higher end cars have creaks, squeaks and rattles. I remember escaping to the ... Read More
I've owned the 2002 Accent and driven the 2001 and 2004 Elantra more than a few times. If you search for my ownership experience in the Accent forums, you'll find that my previous 2002 Accent GLS gave me the most satisfying ownership experience. The build and ride quality was superb for its class and it did what it was supposed to do. For my sister and mom's Elantra experience, its the ... Read More
Honda reliability, gas mileage, utility, and value go a long way. Go ask someone that remember the 70's what they thought of Honda when they first came out. Hyundai does not have the reputation. You might not think so now but give it a few more years. For me, my trust in the brand started 5 years ago and they are getting there. Just changed the tires on my sister's 2001 ... Read More
I have a 2000 Hyundai Accent/automatic transmission/4 door. Bought it from a small dealership in town in May of 2004 with 40K. Has about 65K on it right now. Not one single problem. It shakes a little like any little car, but it is more reliable than any of our American-made cars. It's fun to drive, and it sounds "mean" when you accelerate really fast. Gas mileage is great! 35+ MPG, ... Read More
Hi, I haven't been able to find the torque settings for you, but they may be in your owners manual for the car? If not, im sure if you phoned up your local Hyundai Dealer they would be able to give you the torque specs, my local hyundai garage has been very helpful with that sort of thing so far. Is there anything to be carfull of when changing spark plugs ... Read More
. I intend to buy an Accent 2006 as soon as it comes available. I have one question, are Accents equipped with "Electronic Throttle" I mean the 2006?. I just got rid of my Rav4, 2004 that I bought new, because of that. I had four incidents of " Unwanted Acceleration"- Sudden surge- and I was not going to wait until the next one happens and get involved in an accident ... Read More
ok so my wife and i own a 2004 accent GT w/ about 30K miles on it. only real reason we got it was because it was fairly good-looking and very well priced. needless to say, the performance has been less tham acceptable (should have driven it a little harder on the test drive) but the biggest issue is with the windshield...seems like EVERY time we take it on the interstate ... My friend just bent the steel rim on his 2004 Hyundai Accent GL Hatchback with automatic. He got a "in stock car" from the dealership so does not know what options it has. What is the size of the stock steel rim on this car?? Diameter, off-set, bolt pattern, width???
I just sold my 2002 Accent GL 5spd with 52K miles. If not for me getting my old 94 Mazda Protege DX back, I would be in a Hyundai dealership right now waiting for the 2005 Accent model. My dealer service experience in NY is great. I only went once during the 2 years I've owned it. The one problem was with the Throttle Position Sensor circuit which was fixed in ... Read More
The way I understand is the Automatic has taller final drive gearing then the Manual. The trade off is slower accelleration over a manual trans. Hyundai probably chose the gear ratios in the manual more for performance then for economy there is always a tradeoff with this. Autos are also more efficient now then they have been in tha past. The auto in the Accent is a 4 speed with overdrive ... Read More
Backy, thanks for the explanation. However, I am still curious as to why you find the Sentra's handling "sloppy". I would certainly agree with you that back seat room in the Sentra clearly reveals its late 90s design (introduced in Spring 2000 as a 2000). Also, the Sentra has quite possibly the most absurd excuse for a cupholder that Ive ever seen. I drove the Aerio upon its introduction, when it ... Read More
When is this suppose to be released, in the fall 2004?
>"With a resale value of 43% of MSRP after 4 >years, the $16,000 2004 Honda Civic LX 4 door >experiences a much lower rate of depreciation >than either the $12,000 Hyundai Accent (27%) or >the $44,000 Lincoln LS (34%)." >I dare you to disprove that statement. As others have mentioned, this is based on MSRP, only. 43% of $16,000 is $6800. The value of the Civic after 4 years. (is it ... Read More
In comparing Civic to Corolla to Elantra, why would you make a comparison on the crash tests of the Civic 2 door to the Corolla 4 door to the Elantra 4 door, when the Civic 4 door's scores are more directly comparable to models actually offered by Corolla and Elantra? ------------------------------------------------ smith20- "The percentages of two differently priced cars are apples and oranges which is why looking at the percentages side-by-side ... Spy Shot: 2005 Hyundai Accent This is the production version of the E3 concept car shown by Hyundai in Geneva in March 2004. The more adventurous aspects of the E3's styling will have been toned down - the rear-hinged back doors won't feature, for example - and the finished product won't come with the full pale leather interior of the show car, but the basic theme will be similar: spacious, with ... I am currently thinking of buying an Accent for work purposes. I run an independent movie theater and we must move our movie prints around and pick them up from other theaters. This can involve a great deal of driving. Right now we are using a courier service but recently the cost for this service has sky rocketed ($35 - $250 depending on distance). The owner has decided that he would ... Read More
The new 2004 Accent is about to come out later this month i think and has anyone heard of any changes or new options . ??? Ive been enjoying my car its great and it has great gas milage! its a new 2003 Accent 3-door its awesome!
Well, IMO the Cavalier is more car than the Accent, in several respects especially performance, but I would not want to own one. The interior quality is abysmal, the seats are uncomfortable to me, and it does not have the utility of a hatchback. Also the Accent has a superior warranty. I'd probably go with the base Accent hatch since there's no advantage in power for the GSi and a big ... Read More
