EDITORS' RATINGS OVERALL SCORE:

Overall

RATING

A more manageable Hummer than the larger H1 and H2, the H3 provides much the same versatility as its traditional mid-size SUV counterparts, but does so with the prestige of the Hummer badge.

DETAILED EDITORS' RATINGS

Dynamics

RATING

Feels stable on the highway, but body roll is readily apparent when driven on winding roads. Braking distances are long. An available V8, found in the H3 Alpha, is less stressed by the weight of the truck than its V6 alternative. Low-range and a differential lock help off-road, as does the added V8 power.

Comfort

RATING

Comfortable seats, ample room up front and a quieter than expected ride.

Function

RATING

Good control layout, but cargo room isn't impressive and visibility is compromised by the body design.

Design/Build Quality

RATING

A consistent Hummer design theme is complemented by above-average materials.
