Honda Prelude 1992-1996

HELP!!!

I got a 1996 Honda Prelude with a v-tech engine (sweet). Anyway I'm having a problem shifting into gear. My shifter won't go in to gear unless i put it in gear while the car is off. Then when i turn it on it starts to go while i have the clutch in. Then i can go and gear up but when i try and gear down it won't go in to gear again. The 1992 - 1996 Prelude is known as the 4th generation. As you know, there were 4 basic iterations of the car: S, Si, 4WS, & VTEC. The 4th generation Prelude handles very well and when mated to a 5-speed manual transmission can be very entertaining to drive. It's been awhile since I checked into this board...I bought a leftover 2001 Prelude Sportshift in March of this year. Since that time I've put 5,770 miles on it, and I must say that, at this point, I truly regret buying it.
