I am not an expert on Honda transmissions. That said, I suggest when you put the pilot into D2 you may be starting out in 2nd gear therefore slow to move, made for slippery conditions (Canadian design). I think anytime there is a transmission shifting problem, an oil change is in order. this removes grit and dirt from the trans. Hope that helps.
I am getting a group of Pilot Owners who are having a problem with their Pilots when the economy kicks in. Most often it is described as a shudder or like driving down a bad patch of road. As a group we can get Honda to finally look at this problem and quit telling us it is normal. I have a 2013 that does this, while my 2011, 2010 and 2006 ... Read More
I just noticed that your post is from almost a year ago but I will give you my two cents worth anyway. When my (former) 2005 Honda Pilot was about a year old my "brake assist booster" or some such thing failed and I completely shot through an intersection. After composing myself, I took the vehicle directly to my dealership and they couldn't find a problem and if it happened again ... Read More
Hi Diane, I'm not sure why you are replying to a message from Jan 2011 as it may not be relevant anymore, but I can tell you which dealers I looked at in the Bay Area when we bought our Pilot recently. I guess in general for the Bay Area, some dealers will add things to their quote (e.g., extended warranty, third party alarm systems, phantom, running boards, etc.) and some ... Read More
Hello, I am also in Northern CA and trying to buy a Touring 4wd. I would appreciate knowing the 4 dealers in the Bay Area you narrowed your search and which dealer did you buy your Pilot from? I have a Honda Pilot 2011 Tour with 75k miles. I am on my second set of Honda front rotors and they were just re surfaced 8/10/13. The service writer said" Honda Pilot rotors need to be re surfaced about every 28k miles. My toyota 4 runner went 100,000 before I had to resurface. I expected similar quality from Honda and am dissapointed, but it is fixable. I understand my 1996 ... Read More
I noticed it when I was backing out of parking spaces and turning to the left. It was easy to replicate and after a test drive the Honda techs said I needed a new left front axle (this is a short axle that goes from the transfer case to the wheel, not the old fashioned full length axle). Also they put a new boot on. The problem has not come back ... Read More
Tommy You said you are looking for either a Pilot EX-L (no NAV, no res) or a Touring which has both NAV & RES. this weekend is most definitely one if THE weekends to buy a car. emdy, Thanks for the info. Do you mind sharing where you are? I'm in Dallas and the lowest offer I've been able to get on the 2013 EX-L 4WD is $32,300 + TTL. That seems high. We just leased a 2013 Pilot EX-L 4WD 36 month/12,000 miles a year for $372 a month. No money down. We traded in our 2011 Santa Fe for above KBB value and put the $600 in equity towards first month's payment and fees. I would call around to several different dealers. We did, and they all fought to earn our business late last week. Picked up the car ... Read More

This sounds like the hill holding feature of the brakes. Read the manual. The brakes self apply when you are stopped pointing up hill when you take your foot off the brake to place your foot on the throttle so the car does not roll back until you can accelerate. The brake pedal does go hard when this is active. Not a problem...a feature.
We just leased a 2013 Honda Pilot EX-L 4WD for $513/month (including taxes), 0 down, 35 months from Stephens Honda in Bloomington, IN. They waived the last payment on our current lease (2011 Pilot EXL 4WD), and gave us a $4000 check for the positive equity in our old Pilot (KBB value was $4000 greater than the payoff). Was this a decent deal?
Hey Gatorbaiter, Sounds like a good deal to me! I can't say specifically on an EX-L current price but i just did nearly the same thing with my 2011 EX-L in Dec. Dropped it off 8 months early and picked up a Touring model for about $10 more a month. Some else just reported on here doing the same. So it sounds like the Pilots are holding good value and Honda ... Read More

Hi, I have a 2011 Honda Pilot with only 9,000 miles on it. In the last few months I've noticed that while sitting at stop lights (i.e., in gear but brake applied) it will lurch forward. This problem does not always occur, but sometimes when you first turn on the A/C it will produce a foul odor, which I can only compare to the smell at a hair salon when someone is getting a perm.

I know this is an old thread, but in case anyone is still interested in this topic, here is my input – I was trying to decide between a used 2008 Acura MDX and a new 2011 Honda Pilot last year. I hope it's just something loose and can be tightened and nothing major.
Hi verybeeg: I own an Honda Pilot 2011 4WD along with the 100,000 mile warranty. I have about 35K on mine so far, including some towing and steep mountainous gravel road travel, as well as lots of interstate travel. 2011 Honda pilot EX-L 4x4, no nav, no RES $32,750 including destination + TTL Including autostart and engine block heater installed. Should I wait for the 2012's to come out? How much cheaper do you think the 2011's will get? Upper Midwest BTW. I talked to wehmouth honda in MA and they offered $31,300 for ex-l with RES which is a crazy price, but it would probably cost $1000 to ship. ... Read More
We looked at the new Pilots before we bought out 08 EX 2wd- for us the $10k-20k difference in price between our Certified used 08 Pilot and a 09- 2011 EX was not justifiable. We also chose the 08 Pilot for the typical reasons (Honda reliability, needed more room for our dogs, family hauling, etc.), and we were also not big fans of the Hummer-wide style front end on the 09 ... He asked if I went to Vegas and I told him "no" only to Los Angeles. I have complained ... Read More
I'm about to move to the Albany area from overseas (I am American). Neither my wife or I have a car, and I'm leaning towards a Honda Pilot. Any one else go through the same decision process ... Read More

Just purchased a fully loaded 2011 White Diamond Pearl Pilot with gray interior. We have about 300 miles on the car. First impressions are positive. Smooth, quiet ride. Dealership in Lynnwood Washington was first class throughout the entire buying experience. We plan on taking many road trips with this vehicle. Before selecting the Pilot, we checked out around a dozen other SUV's. The Honda fit our needs, just right.
