My 2009 Pilot EXL is coming off lease in May, and I have 35,200 miles on it. Yes, I should have thought of this sooner, and found out that I need to buy the extended warranty NOW if I am to buy the car out after the lease. The car is worth way much more than what I owe on the lease, so I am buying it out when the lease ... Read More
The Pilot is our 3rd Honda as well. It is my wife's DD. We bought it primarily for the room. We have 3 children 5 1/2, 3, & 2 months. They are all in child safety seats. How in the world can you believe this dealer BS when your dealership has already tried to get you to buy an HC plan from them at inflated prices on your used Pilot??? You can buy up to an 8yr/120k HC extended warranty with either a $0 deductible or a $100 deductible from either your gouging dealer, Saccucci, Hyanis or elsewhere as long as they are an authorized Honda Dealership. Thank you all for your responses & advice! Upon getting some quotes for the HC plan from your suggestions, we were just contacted by the dealer we purchased our used 2010 Pilot from asking if we had changed our mind and were interested in purchasing HC plan from them after all. Okay, found this site about a month and a half after I upgraded my lease on 11.13.11 from a 2010 Honda Odyssey LX to a 2012 Honda Pilot EX-L 4WD in Southern CA (heard the 4WDs are hard to get in So Cal). When we leased the Odyssey a year and a half ago, we wanted a 4WD Pilot, but none were available. I think I did OK, might could have ... Read More
I appreciate all of the knowledge you have given me , But I think that the real issues are with the posted mileage expectations on the sticker of the cars at the dealerships. Many people are led to believe that they will get these numbers and trust the agency that comes up with these results. Why don't they list real world mileage based on your city and let people know the ... Read More
Hi all & thanks for your feedback/suggestions/comments! We are considering purchasing the Honda Cares extended warranty (8 years/120k miles) on a used 2010 Honda Pilot 2WD Touring model with 25,300 miles. Any thoughts? Is this program worth it, is it good warranty, do they try to exclude you to death when repairs are needed? What is reasonable to pay for it? Do these models really need it/have a history of needing ... Read More
I use TireRack all the time - not a problem. When my dealer sold me tires, he went right to TireRack and showed me their price so I could see I was getting a fair price from them. The top-rated tire right now (both at TireRack and at Consumer Reports) is the General Grabber HTS. I have had them on since Spring and they're great. Do NOT buy the OEM tires. ... Read More
Why pay extra money to the dealer unless they are willing to pro rate the originals? Even in that case tires will be cheaper at tire rack. I buy them online and have been getting mine installed at Firestone and I pay for the life time balance which is well worth it. Also have the lifetime alignment. I would go with Yokohama
Looks like my rear tires have worn out, and its only 22K miles. It failed the penny test, and then some. So far the front tires look good, so I am thinking of just replacing the rear ones. Should I go with the OEM tires or try another brand. I am also trying to decide where to get the tires from. The dealership is definitely going to be expensive, the cheapest ... Read More
I am in the same situation in looking for an EX-L. Found a few 2009's that are Honda Certified for 25K which is a great deal. I think the reason the price has dropped is because the initial 09's are just coming off a 3 year lease and the residual is around 20k or less. Since the 25K is the dealer list price, I am sure they will come down some ... Read More
Thought I'd share my buying experience should it be helpful for anyone where I was a week ago. The editor reviews from edmunds.com aren't exactly glowing. The Pilot got slaughtered in a recent (I think) Motor Trend 3 row SUV comparison. Despite all the recent bad press, I know I made a smart choice in making it the 3rd vehicle in our stable that already includes a 2001 Honda Prelude Type SH (142,000 + miles) & a 2010 Acura TSX w/ Tech Pkg (35,000 + Miles). We're taking delivery of our Pilot on Thursday. Very exciting. There are still lots of Pilots out there. Usually I would say that ... Read More
Yes, they do put you off, it's been since October of 2010 and they have checked it out but done nothing. Honda America denies knowing anything about it although it has been reported to them numerous times. I guess someone has to be seriously injured or worse before it gets their attention.
what year of your pilot? my pilot is 2010 EX model and it has brake problem when it is brand new. Honda could not explain why and they refused to do anything.
My wife had this problem in Oct. 2010 and the vehicle has been driven almost not at all (mostly to the Honda dealership where is sat for a month or more). There is a store in Atlanta that just installed a DVD system in my new 2011 Pilot. The name is Sound Sensations in Marrietta. They also sell Nav systems. I have a 2010 EX-L pilot, and just received a "recall notice" from Honda to schedule/bring-in the pilot to re-program the moonroof control unit - to fix the not closing(reversing on closure attempt) and battery drain of the moonroof control unit. Sounds like Honda has a fix. Faulty Engineering by either Honda, incomplete testing by Honda, Honda can do better!

Please read #177 & #179 above. It has been well documented in many forums (such as this one) that the 2002 through 2006 model years for both the Honda Pilot and the Acura MDX (same transmission) have exceptionally high instance of torque converter failure in the transmission. If you have the grinding/vibration/shuddering noise while accelerating between 30 to 40 mph, it is probably your torque converter. Even though Honda did not ... Read More
To "gatdammit".....Is Consumer Reports applying the "recommended" designation to specific years or all years of Honda Pilots/Acura MDXs?
