Honda Pilot Maintenance and Repair
Servicing according to the Manual? Ha!
I've now owned 6 Hondas in my lifetime, that last two being Pilots. My current one is a 2006 (best damn car I've ever owned). I got sick of being overcharged and hosed by my Honda Service Centers years ago and I go to my car wash place where they change the oil "religiously" every 3000 miles, check the fluids, tire pressure, and that's it - I made a BIG mistake of going ... Re: bought a pilot vp 4wd for 24300 + ttl+tax+doc [sncmagee]
Just FYI, August 2006 I purchased my Honda Pilot EX-L 2WD for $25,500 including destination charge. Plus Tax, License ect. Read More...
Used 2006 Pilot EX-L
I'm interested in buying a 2006 EX-L Pilot. My local dealer currently has two in stock, both under the suggested retail price listed on Edmunds. The price breakdown is; 1) Has everything. 42,656 miles Trade-In: $19,150 Private Party Value: $22,760 Retail Value: $26,575 The dealer is asking $26,000 and they just got it in last week. 2) Again, has everything, ... Re: Used 2006 Pilot EX-L [katie87]
Yours is an excellent example of why late model Hondas are poor used car values. When you can buy new for slightly more, it makes no sense (or cents) to buy used. Read More...
Re: Very disappointing Honda Pilot 2009 [univesityoftex]
Yea, I agree that Honda has excellent engineers but that is not the same as good design. The Pilot designers are below average and it appears lack vision. Their prototype drawing pictured on the internet seemed foreward thinking but the box shown at Detroit, to me, was really unforgivable. I sense they will loose with this current lack of creativity. I own the ... Read More...

Re: Incentive campaign on Honda Pilot, Beware or you may loose [sbddrj]
Take a look back at earlier posts here. [which I guess you might have done if you're truly buying every 2 years, right?] Summer 2006: $4000 dealer incentive on 06 pilots. Summer 2007: $3500 dealer incentive on 07 pilots. Winter 2008 (a few months before 09s arrive): $3500 on 08 pilots. Where's the surprise on the 08 incentives? Read More...
Decision made
Thanks to everyone for their thoughts. I ended up purchasing a 2008 Pilot due to the dealer incentives Honda is throwing around. I got a EX-L w/NAV for under $28k + TTL, which was about $2k cheaper than I could get a 2006 MDX w/NAV with 22k miles (that was also located 3 hours away). The price difference convinced me to live with the following Pilot shortcomings vs ... Read More...
Re: 2009 Pilot [solo]
"...Hopefully no one will buy the ugly thing and the price will come down and Ill get a new one every year. ..." LOL, that would create two problems, 1- the resale value come down and you would lose money every year when trying to unload it, 2- It won't be cost effective and Honda will either stop making Pilots or come up with a more attractive one for much higher price! ... VCM on 2008 FWD Pilots
This question may have been answered previously, but do owners of 08 FWD Pilots with the Variable Cylinder Management (VCM) system think that it does improve gas mileage? My initial thought is that it would improve gas mileage for those who spend more time on the highways than in stop-n-go traffic, but I'm wondering if people are indeed getting the 22 mpg which ... Re: 2006 Pilot EX Gas Mileage on a new engine [bsolve1]
Thanks for the info. I guess the old saying "misery loves company" is true for me. I feel bad for you, but am glad that I am not the only experiencing this problem. I did a lot of on-line investigating and talked to a number of Pilot owners, and all seemed to be getting mpg's close to what Honda quotes. This is why I am so dissapointed with what I am getting. I just filled ... Read More...
