How has your mileage been now that you have owned your vehicle for awhile? I keep a track record of my gas mileage with "The Beast" and have been a constant 16-20mpg depending on where I go. Best I have ever gotten was 26mpg and the worst was 5mpg. Odie "The Beast" - 2006 Honda Pilot EX-OR
I had to replace the stereo on my 2006 Pilot; (it kept suddenly dying) and replaced it with a Sony MEX-BT5700U with Bluetooth. I also used the XM and steering column adapters; all works well and I love it. Now I can hook up my iPhone easily and use all hands off features.
Just wanted to see if anyone has had to have their shocks done yet. I currently drive a 2006 Honda Pilot EX-OR named "The Beast". I'm just shy of 79k on him so shocks would be a little soon for him. Odie
Did you find a resolution for this problem? I am in the same predicament with my 2006 Honda Pilot EXL. We jumped our dead battery last week and ever since then my speakers won't work. The stereo has power and the sub is working, but nothing from the speakers. I took it to Honda today and three different technicians checked the obvious fuses with no luck. They suggested doing a more ... Read More
My 2006 Honda Pilot makes this fog horn like sound when the engine is running. Noise occurs at random and at various speed. The noise stops when the engine is turned off and does not resume. Took to the dealer who said it might be the brakes, but noise happens when car is not moving. Took to the mechanic at local gas station, he heard noise and was stumped. Brought car ... Read More
Just purchased the 4WD Touring (only extras were floor mats and cargo tray) for $35,448 + TTL. I was able to take advantage of the 0.9% financing and at closing I received an additional $500 for my 2006 Pilot trade (Honda Loyalty Cash, I believe.) All-in-all, I feel like I got a pretty decent deal - for a girl. ;) Oh, and the finance manager tried to sell me an extended ... Read More
I have a 2006 Pilot with about 55K miles, out of warranty. On my drive home last night my wife and I both noticed that odor of an electrical or plastic overheating problem. I concur with Steve. I have a 2006 with 87K on it. I've done nothing but routine maintenance on it. It still performs as it did when it was new. So, there is my anecdotal evidence. If anyone wants the preponderance of the evidence, check Consumer Reports. They show it as being very reliable.
I purchased a new 2011 Pilot EX-L 4WD today for $32,400 inclusive of destination. The only additional costs were TTL. I had 1 other dealership that would match this price and one that would beat it by $40. I traded a 2006 Pilot EX-L RES 4WD and received above KBB trade-in. My trade was in excellent condition. I purchased at Schaumburg Honda in Schaumburg, Illinois. I was extremely pleased with the ... Read More

Is your car under warranty? 2006 Honda Pilot has 5 years, 60K powertrain warranty. If yours is out of warranty, I have seen posts that people were successfully received assistance from Honda ranging from zero cost to owner paid for dealer installation and Honda provides free rebuilt transmission. The key is you have to act asap and take it different dealers if you don't get the answers that address all of ... Read More

Please read #177 & #179 above. It has been well documented in many forums (such as this one) that the 2002 through 2006 model years for both the Honda Pilot and the Acura MDX (same transmission) have exceptionally high instance of torque converter failure in the transmission. If you have the grinding/vibration/shuddering noise while accelerating between 30 to 40 mph, it is probably your torque converter. Even though Honda did not ... Read More

Yes, for 2006 you are correct and make a good point. Both the Pilot and MDX have the same compression ratio and displacement (I made a mistake in my prior post, I meant to show 3.471 Liter). so your point is the engine with 10:1 compression doesn't need preminum 91 or higher.. If you look at 2006 MDX which has 3471 CC 10:1 compression, required 91 or higher. Dear Honda, as soon as possible, fix the brakes, change the tires and give us the new motor. Then, I'll buy one. For the moment, I can see NO reason to sell ... Read More
Prices haven't changed much! I bought my 06 EXL 4wd w/ Navi V6 for $28,300 from Lodi Honda in 2006.
I recently purchased a 2006 Pilot EX and am experiencing the same issue. It sounds like deep bass coming from the rear of the car and only occurs when the car is stopped. As soon as the car accelerates or the driver's side door is opened, the noise subsides. The sound is almost deafening and I'd like to get this figured out. I've had it looked at twice now at the ... Hello: I'm just back from viewing and driving a 2009 AWD Pilot Touring with RES. I currently drive a 2008 Pilot EXL AWD. Wow. They have improved the Pilot in every way. The gauges are more readable and there is more information. The shifter (while some may say it's not in an ideal location - but I won't say that) is in a much better location. The rear seat head rests ... Read More
There was a class action law suit against Honda regarding faulty odometers. Apparently it showed more than actual. The suit was settled and Owners of 2006 and previous years Hondas of certain models got 5% mileage allowance on their warranty and lease use. Original owners and owners of record were sent notifications from Honda to that effect. That covered my 06 Pilot. Honda has indicated the 07 and newer models have ... Read More
Once they touched the wheel(s), they have to take care of it free if you found the alignment is off. It is possible they messed the alignment during procedure. If they won't do it free then complain to the Honda regional office. The service manager needs to respond to you due to pressure from Honda customer service. The key point is "Did the repair job involve the wheel?", which in your ... Read More
I jued an fm transmitter with my iriver mp3 player and it worked fine. It was just a hassle to mess with. Two weeks ago I gave my Pilot to my wife and got a new Fit. Although there are no radio controls on the steering of the Fit (which was a big issue for me) the stereo in the Fit Sport models blows the Pilot's stereo away. In pretty much ... Read More
Hi Rodut -- Be careful with the Honda Pilot. The Pilots tend to make a knocking sound at the very back each time you hit the breaks. It comes from the gas tank, and you can hear the gasoline swishing. These noises are heard from within the car. I did not hear those noises until 1-1/2 weeks after I bought it. Honda claims this is normal, therefore is not able to ... Read More
Greetings It is my understanding that a gentleman named Dennis is the guru of leasing questions. If anyone else has experience with the following question, please feel free to share your experience. Does American Honda Financial Corporation (AHFC) negotiate on the residual price of a lease buyout IF the vehicle (2006 Pilot EXL-Navi in this case) has an actual book value that is considerably less? My 06 Pilot lease is up ... Read More
It may or may not be. My advice would be to have your vehicle inspected by at least 2 other independant mechanics, one of them being another Honda Dealership. Just inform the others of the situation, but not the details on what happened. This way you will hopefully get the most honest appraisal for repairs and potential long term issues. Have these appraisals and opinions in writing. This way you will ... Read More
My Honda Pilot with 25,000 kms was damaged by the dealer when changing a timing belt underwarranty that they claimed I needed. The engine was hand turned and started without it being timed. The dealer will only replace 6 intake valves (no grinding or lapping). Does this sound like an adequate fix? Will I have engine problems down the road?
You are obviously an English major rather a car person. While I am impressed with your use the English language, I have to keep reminding myself that opinions are like a**holes, in that everyone has one. I am currently driving my second Honda Pilot (2006) having previously owned a 2004, and I can tell you that the new styling is refreshing, and I can't wait until I am able to purchase ... Read More
