I just had the second transmission failure on a 2005 Honda Pilot. The first happened within the first month and the second happend after 18 months and 50,000 miles. This appears to remain a Honda issue. The second failure occured when I came to a busy intersection at a stoplight, the car shook and then died...it would start, but when I put it in gear, it would die. Read More...

gmoney2, Symptoms with the EGR valve were; the tranny chattering and not wanting to lock up the torque converter. From what I think I understand, from the explanation given by the service department. The Safety Recall in 2002 NHTSA Campaign ID #02V226000 was supposed to be on 2003 Pilots. It was not supposed to happen any more. Supposed to have been resolved. Since it is still happening even in the 2008 Pilots, IT HAS NOT BEEN RESOLVED. Why? Does the NHTSA know about this or are they asleep? It is also happening in my 2005 Pilot. It's a knocking noise. The Honda Engineer thinks it is inside the engine. The mechanics say it's in the area of the harmonic balancer. They are not sure where it is. It is not steady, it comes and goes. I've taken it in before for this noise and they could not hear it. Now it's getting louder and my milage is about 32,000 miles. Getting near the end of warranty. Have been hearing a strange noise in the engine in area where the drive belt and pullies are. Mechanic thought it was the pulley belt so he put a new one on. Noise is still there.
