    I own a 2005 Forester and a2010 Pilot. Under adverse weather conditions like snow and ice the forester gets around far better than the pilot. The AWD system of the forester works great. The Pilot is like driving a big sled that cannot handle slick or snowy hills. Where as the forester handles the same conditions with ease. When the going gets tuff, get a Subaru.

    I just sent a letter regarding this thread to these people: http://www.carconsumers.org/index.htm We'll see what they think. Also told them about the similar issue with shared tranny on Odyssey, MDX, Accord. Wrote Consumer Reports couple years ago since they STILL give the 1st gen pilot highest ratings but nothing ever came of it. Save your receipts!!!

    The same thing just happend to my 2005 honda piolot, has anyone posted a complaint to http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/complaint if enought of us do that perhaps something will happen. Our repair cost is lower new trans, radiator and hoses total approx: $5700 which also included the timing belt since we are at 180K and would like to keep the car for another 2 yrs.

    Transmission and radiator just went in our 2005 Pilot with 112,000 on it. Dealer quated $7,000 repair. I will not tell you what I quoted back. We no longer own a Honda. Would love to take part in class action. Have you pursued this anyh further and if so who should I contact?

    Your Pilot may well be okay, Mine was the first year that the Pilot was sold 2003 ~ and it's riddled with problems. Not sure when Honda re-designed the vehicle, but I hope for your sake that they built the 2005 better than the 2003 !! Good Luck. There really is nothing you can do to prevent a transmission failure if that's the way the car was designed and built.

    I believe it was the 1998 - 2005 years that had the transmission problems. Let me know if you get any recourse from Honda...I just sent letter to Attorney General.     Honda says my Pilot "appears fine" too! I would recommend taking this type of a malfunction to another mechanic other than Honda.

    My Honda shudders and vibrates when accelerating around 34-40. My mechanic which specializes in Honda/Acura says it is the torque converter. However, there is no service bulletin or recall for the 2005. I first mentioned it to him at 90,000. I now have 125,000. I see where some of you have gotten Honda to pay for this repair. Is it worth pursuing? This is my second Honda with transmission issues.

    schann, I my case it was the transmission. Fortunately we had an exteneded warranty and it was covered. Problem was completely corrected after the new tranny was put in. It seems I started hearing about other folks have transmission problems with their Pilots. I don't recall teh exact cost, but I believe it was in the $3K or $3.5K range from the dealer. Wish I had better news.

    I think it is due to faulty VSC that brakes on its own.

    They might not notice it if folded up. Just leave it -- can't figure they would charge you to remove it. Makes more sense to leave it in place. Affects nothing in the truck. Let us know what happens.

    1. You will get charged, I think @ 0.20/mile. The mileage is prorated for your extension. You can negotiate a bit on the final price they give you. I have done it and got it reduced by $200. 2.     I did not realize the 05 Pilot had the TPMS. First, I would make sure the reading is taken in the right temperature. I have a 2006 Pilot and the lights were on for awhile. What I tried was to over-inflated it just a a little bit, the light went off and then I took it back to 32. It may work for you too.
