Nice size, but with 8 seats, not enough space behind. Feels safe while driving even on a rainy day. Fast passing speed. Good stereo (didn't came with the 6 CD player, until '05. Nice color silver with gray leather. Wife is in love with her SUV. Might last 10 years in good shape.

After looking at other peoples' reviews it appears that Honda's quality control is on this vehicle is poor. Overall the Pilot has nice features and is a practical SUV. But while others have raved about the power and the mileage, my Pilot has not excelled on either. When it was brand new it had good power and got about 19 mpg (mixed city/hwy) but at about 25,000 miles it started having problems with both. Mileage is now 15- 16mpg and power is poor. It sputters and loses speed at times on a level hwy. I have taken it to the dealer numerous times, and the Honda district service rep has looked at it. According to them everything is "normal". I have owned many Hondas, but this may be my last.

Very good reliable vehicle. Never had any problems. Smooth riding. Pull my 21 foot boat up the boat landing like it is not even there. Love this vehicle.

The Pilot drives like the Accord. It is easy to handle, and has a smooth ride (not bouncy like other SUV's). We've purchased other SUV's in the past that were difficult to drive over 60 on the interstate. The Pilot manages easy and is enjoyable to drive.

Great vehicle -- very versatile, fun to drive, very good mileage. Interior fit/finish could be a bit better, but this SUV is an excellent buy.

Not Impressed with my 1st Honda

There is nothing wrong with a Honda, some people are just not meant to drive one. The style I find very boring. More importantly, the stereo speakers are hard to listen to. The steering wheel controls are nice. It would be nicer if you could go forwards and backwards; but you can only go forward with your selections from the steering wheel. So if you like a song on your CD you have to advance through the others to get back to the last song. The other option is to take yours eyes off the road and lean way over to the radio and use the search button. As for fuel mileage, it is about 14-mpg city by my calculations. If you like Honda, you like the Pilot, otherwise keep looking.

Once dealer worked through early transmission issues, performance is fine. I'm dissapointed that rear seats do not lay down flat! Overall it is a good auto with some minor design flaws.

2004 Pilot EX-L with RES

Figured a higher mileage review was due (40K miles at 1.5 years since driving off the lot) Perfect track record and we tow a boat (2700 lbs w/trailer) and snowmobiles (2000 lbs w/trailer) a lot. Average 18-20 in around town driving. Approx 22-24 for a dedicated highway drive. Realistic towing mpg is 15-16. Great overall ride but the spring rates from the MDX (slightly stiffer) would be nice. Power is more than adequate. If cheap Goodyear Integrity OEM tires are rotated every 5K, they'll provide a lot of useful life (still good tread at 40K). In Northern climates, running boards and rear splash guards are a must. MAKE the dealer throw them in (they will). Next SUV will be a Pilot.

What a Great Ride!

The Honda Pilot is a reliable SUV that holds up well when other drivers bump and grind into you. The navigation system is very easy to use and gets you to your desired location easily. The interior design is techno-chic and very comfortable. The third row of seats has a great option...use one seat, keep the other down or pull them both up. Third row only fits kids and short adults though. Overall, an excellent car with a smooth ride.

Still Exceeding Expectations

We bought the Pilot to buffer our 1 year old in 5 star crash rated construction and to haul his gear around. This vehicle is everything its supposed to be - van like capacity that is unparalleled in its class and the look of an SUV on the outside. Drives wonderfully, all the confidence of the size and height visibility and yet flexible maneuvering of a car. The deal was, my wife would get to drive to work and I would drive on weekends. So far, I have to pry the keys out of her hands on the weekends!
