Our Second Odyssey (EX-RES) - Great Van/Great Value
By grover432 on
Vehicle2014 Honda Odyssey EX 4dr Minivan (3.5L 6cyl 6A)
ReviewOur first was a 2011 model which had no issues other than a fussy 5 Spd automatic that vibrated when upshifting. Our 2014 6 speed doesn't have the transmission vibration but it "tugs" a bit on downshift when cold.
Van drives and handles well. The controls you touch most have been improved. Interior noise is about the same as the Sienna.
While it may cost a bit more than some of its competitors, it retains its value on resale.
We leased our 2011 with a
buyout of $19,300 (CAD) after 36 months. We bought it out and sold it for $26,500, taking the $7,200 in equity plus $1,500 in cash from Honda and bought a new 2014. We were only out of pocket $9,000 for a brand new van!
Best FeaturesPush button start and LED taillights are a few of the improvements that we love on the 2014 model. We also appreciate the power side doors. The middle row is perfect for 2 forward facing car seat and a rear facing car seat in the middle position. With the middle position open and the out board seats set to the wide position, you can fit an adult in the middle position with 2 car seats installed in the outboard seats. No other mini van can do this. We also like the new center console with touch screen to control the audio system. We skipped the pricier EX-L RES (which cost $5,500 more), so we don't get the power rear tailgate.
Worst FeaturesAdd a power tailgate to the EX-RES and try and find a way to make the vehicle more quiet inside. Sand hitting the front wheel well liners sounds like the wheel wells are paper thin! A leather steering wheel on this trim would be appreciated.
