2011 Odyssey Still Has Front Brake Rotor Issues
By dustync on
Vehicle
2011 Honda Odyssey EX 4dr Minivan (3.5L 6cyl 5A)
Review
This is a Love - Hate Relationship... Love the Fuel Economy (31.9 mpg at 64 mph Hwy). Hate that Honda actually advertised the fact that they "re-engineered" the Front Brake Rotors, yet at 11,850 miles, the Dealer (Honda Autopark in Cary,NC) replaced them due to "WARPING". The very same issue I had with my 2007 Odyssey! The front windshield had excessive distortion along a 5-6" band of the sides, so this was also replaced. Several of the bolt together body parts, fenders, etc. do not line up well at all (assembly issues), but have not addressed that yet. If you start having any vibration coming from the front-end of your Odyssey, have the brake rotors checked before 12,000 mile warranty.
Favorite Features
The exterior design changes are long overdue, and appreciated. The ride is much better as well. The front seats are still, waaaay too small for a bigger (6', 250lb) guy like me. The Fuel mileage is unbelievable! If I set the cruise at 64 mph and drive from Raleigh to Wilson, NC., I get 31.9 mpg! Get a few Honks and Headlight Flashes from the aggressive drivers as well....but too bad, gas prices are crazy! The sound system with the hard-drive is great, but only able to record 18 CD's ??? Seriously? Now have 19,500 miles in 3-1/2 months (on the road everyday), the OEM tires are going fast, way too fast.
Suggested Improvements
Lower riding height of vehicle somehow, hard for most people to get in and out of rear seating from ground level (especially older folks). Better OEM Tires, Bigger Front Seats... and Really, this time, Really Re-Engineer the Front Brake Rotors!

Yet another update... Front Brakes have been an ongoing issue about every 12k miles. Now have just over 70,000 miles on the Odyssey and it is long, overdue for another front, brake job. The Dealership in Cary refuses to acknowledge the issue, but that is probably due to their knowing that it is now in process under Lemon Law. Consumer beware of this big problem with the Front Brakes on the 2011 Honda Odyssey!

Update - 5/22/2011 Now had 24,500 miles of the car (told you I'm on the highway, all day). The Front Brake Rotors that were replaced at 11,800 miles, are warping AGAIN !!! Going to the Dealer tomorrow...but this is ridiculous! Does Honda Not have a Fix for this, or do they just expect us to have the Rotors turned every 12000 miles?

Front Brakes on the 2011 Honda Odyssey are Defective, under-enginnered, inferior... I dunno? But the Rotors were replaced again at 36,000 miles! The dealer was nice enough to replace the pads as well (what the heck...right). Now at 48,000 miles, they are Pulsing again, meaning they are once again...warped! On the bright side, I have filed under Lemon Law. I mean seriously people! A $32,000 Honda and so far: The Security system was repaired twice The front windshield was badly distorted and replaced. The front struts "broke", and were replaced. Going on the forth, full-front brake job!

Similar experience here. Front rotors warped at 22K miles. Priority Honda agreed to resurface them as a goodwill job (for 50). Just got back from driving from Huntersville to Upstate NY and back - so far, no issues.

Forgot to add a Note regarding the Honda Bug/Rock Deflector... Do NOT Waste your hard-earned money. This Worthless piece of plastic is nothing more than a $200 Hood Ornament! Does not "deflect" ANYTHING!

Update - 6/23/2011 ...per the last comment, the Dealership resurfaced the Rotors on 5/23. Now, only a month and at 30,500 miles, the rotors are feeling bad. And a knocking noise has developed in the front-end of the car. Took it to the Dealership yesterday... the brake rotors need to be replaced again, and the Struts have gone bad. OMG! Three Brake Jobs and Struts in 30,000 Miles! And 90% of the 30,000 miles have been on smooth, North Carolina Highway, between Raleigh/Durham and Wilson/Rocky Mount. Much less braking than one would experience under normal conditions of City/Highway combination driving. The Service Advisor, advised me that once I hit 36,000... I was on my own (no more warranty)... Looking forward to that! May be discussing Lemon Law with an Attorney soon.
