First of all, no one makes better transmissions than GM; I consider them the standard, so I agree with your Buick example. I've been watching the posts here, as a 2006 Ody owner. My point is that nearly all the problems with Ody transmissions are with those thru 2004, until they redesigned the Ody in 2005 model year. So telling everyone to avoid ALL Odys is not a responsible message to ... Read More
We went on a big trip last month and our 2010 honda odessey had intermittent problems with the door not opening all the way - it was very frustrating for those in the back seat. It happened on both sides of the van. I will try the windows thing - maybe our windows were partway down??
I have a 2002 Odyssey which I bought new in Canada. The 1999-2004 was called LaGreat in Japan with V6 engines. The 2005-2012 built in Alabama are Japanese Dylson (I think this is the name[ see web site below]). The Odyssey minivans without sliding doors have and are still built in Japan with both 4 and 6 cyl engines. They are not the same style as the USA Odyssey (which really ... Read More
I went through CAMVAP process for 2010 Odyssey, unless you can get a technical expert dont bother. Email me if you want to discuss.
Undersized brake rotors and undersized transmissions do count in quality control, design, and reliability. Engineers that work for Honda of America while designing the Accord and Odyssey were NOT intelligent enough to realize that larger vehicles will need larger components, and the problems exist quickly and spooked all the once, loyal Honda customers. The Honda Japanese engineers in Japan would caught this problem faster than what the Honda American engineers could ... Read More
It sounds to me like you got a lemon vehicle. Our 2010 Honda EX-L has been trouble-free, having only one non-routine service to reprogram the transmission controls done at the recommendation of Honda. It is a really nice family vehicle for us, although a bit pricey compared to Toyota Sienna. I will likely go with the Toyota when replacement comes due in a few years as our 2012 Camry SE is ... It's not Honda's faulty quality control in North America. The problem is with the design of the "big" North American vehicles vs. the smaller 4-cyl versions in Asia/Europe. Honda never spent proper time studying the effects of undersized brake rotors and undersized transmission components. Best example is Honda "slapping" Accord brakes & transmission in a 4500lb. Odyssey in the 1999-2001 model years. Epic failure! As far as I can tell, the ... Read More
It's because the Honda Odyssey is produced and engineered in the United States. Most of the common problems could have been avoided if it was produced in Japan instead. Since 1999, the Odyssey has ALWAYS been Honda's least-reliable car model. The new year models are usually rated excellent. My take on it is that the Odyssey is still a good minivan I particularly like the 2005-2010 generation for its routine and emergency handling. If the reviews ... Read More

Did the Crystal Lake Honda dealer in their quote tell you that there is $495 in dealer accessories added to the van that was not included in their quote? I contacted them a few months ago about a 2010 Odyssey LX. The price they sent me via e-mail was very good so I drove over there to purchase the van. When I got there the same internet person you were dealing ... Read More
I'll pre-empt this by saying that for me the 8 seats were a priority, and today's Odyssey offers a bigger/better 8th seat (middle row, center), so that would likely be my choice. However... That write-up is severely flawed. First, if they drove an Ody priced like their Sienna, it would have come with a lesser 5 speed transmission, hurting both acceleration and fuel economy. Then they missed many, many things the ... Read More
Hi loibs. Here's the information that you're looking for. Honda Finance's October buy rate lease money factor and residual value for a 36 month lease of a 2010 Odyssey EX-L w/Nav, rear entertainment, and 12,000 miles per year are .00060 and 50%, respectively for consumers who qualify for its top aka "Super Preferred" credit tier. Honda's 39 month lease program for the 2010 Odyssey is much worse than its 36 month ... Read More
What is the current (October 2010) Money Factor and Residual Value for a 2010 Odyssey EX-L w/Nav & Rear Ent 12,000 miles per year? MSRP w/ destination $37,985. What is a reasonable Agreed Upon Value? Does Honda offer 39 month leases with better rates for 2010 or 2011 Odyssey?
Hi saudade. Here's the information that you're looking for. Honda Finance's October 36 month buy rate lease money factor and residual value for a 36 month lease of a 2011 Honda Odyssey Touring Elite with 15,000 miles per year are .00200 and 60%, respectively for consumers who qualify for its top aka "Super Preferred" credit tier. The numbers for an otherwise identical lease of a 2010 Odyssey Touring are .00060 and ... Read More
Dear Mani, The 2011 odyssey is a total redesign with the upper level trims having a 6 speed transmission. Lots of bells and whistles, but from what you want (touring vs. exl), it sounds like those things might sway you. I would just drive each car and let that speak for itself. Don't let a few bucks kill what you may own for the next 5-10 years. I was certain about ... Read More
It all comes down to personal preference, but from experience, I can tell you that the 2011 Touring does not hold a candle to the 2010 Touring. In my opinion, you would be getting less of a vehicle in the 2011 EX-L then the 2010 Touring. You don't get anything more in the 2011 Touring vs the 2010 Touring unless you get the Elite. Then you have to wonder of the ... Read More
Nice job. Did you ever try to simply modify the DVD software to give another Navigation software option. I was thinking in terms of something like adding MioPocket which has been used on multiple handheld platforms (and even some Chinese aftermarket systems. The core OS would have be WinCE for MioPocket to work. Picking up a 2010 Odyssey Touring van today, may try to read the DVD (I'm assuming the system ... Read More
It does. Honda offers an accessory roof rack. See accessories on the Honda site. I'd buy a 2011 anyday over a 2010 - pricing is only about $1500 apart (driven by rebate on the 2010) and you'll make it up in residual when you come to sell it and have a lot nicer car in the interim.
Most people get the non-RES/NAV at 600-800 below invoice, after rebate. So, I'd go for the low end of the range. They are running out of time, honda corp will make the dealers move out these vehicles, maybe giving more hidden incentives. So, try to push the limit here. The saleperson's job is to stretch the customer and convince them to pay more than intended, regardless of how big the margin ... Read More
I agree that safety should be the top priority, and I never stated that I was against safety testing. The top reason why I chose the Odyssey was because of the safety scores. There have been more than a few articles, however, that imply that perhaps some car companies went a little overboard on the tilt of their head restraints---that other companies have been able to get the same safety results ... IM IN THE MARKET TO BUY A 2011 HONDA ODYSSEY EX-L, WANTED TO KNOW WHAT'S THE AVERAGE PRICE PEOPLE ARE PAYING. SHOULD I WAIT A FEW MONTHS? OR BETTER OFF GETTING THE 2010 HONDA ODYSSEY EX-L. WENT TO LOCAL DEALER A WEEK AGO, I LIKE THE NEW INTERIOR LOOK ON THE 2011 HONDA ODYSSEY, WAS'NT TOO THRILL WITH THE EXTERIOR. I DID'NT LIKE IT THAT THERE WAS NO BODY SIDE MLDGS. ... Read More
Wow, surprised at Costco - even a few months ago 500 over invoice on a 2010 was an awful price on an Oddy.
Thanks for your response. I appreciate it.
