2008 Honda Odyssey EX-L 4dr Minivan (3.5L 6cyl 5A)

Review

I just bought the 2008 Odyssey EX-L today. Great car, consistently reliable (i've owned several other Hondas over the years) However, could use automatic lights and automatic locks. The outdoor temperature shouldn't be on the dash with mileage it should be on rear view mirror like Chevy. Too new to tell how the gas mileage is. . . hopefully at least 21-22mpg. We'll See.

Favorite Features

automatic sliding doors for the kids.

Suggested Improvements

Already stated above. . . automatic lights and automatic door locks would be nice, I've owned several Chevy's and they have these features. They are easy to get used to.

Not sure how you can get under 17 mpg in the city. I guess those posting 12- 13 must really live in a city, with stop and go, heavy traffic and never drive over 5-10 mph. We average 18.5 mpg city (suburban driving) and 25-26 highway (only measured highway mileage once). 1900 miles on the odometer. Sold our 4wd Sienna got 12mpg. This is basically the same interior size getting 80% better city mpg.

Favorite Features

MPG, Safety 5 star all around, Sienna has 4 star for passenger front.

Suggested Improvements

make backup sensors standard

Unfortunately we have had many issues with our brakes. They seem to need “time” to build pressure. When we leave our house, stopping at the stop sign takes a lot of work. Now I don’t mean it is impossible to stop, just uncomfortable. I have taken it into the dealership many times and they seem to do something that makes the brakes feel great at the time, but in a few weeks they go back to feeling the same. I’m still dealing with this issue after about 5 months now and I’m in the process of getting a lawyer to get it taken back on lemon law. Don’t get me wrong thought; I’m very comfortable when driving and it looks stylish. In my opinion it gets great gas mileage for a minivan. Check it out!

Favorite Features

I love all of its standard safety features and its impeccable crash test ratings! I love the electric sliding doors and the stylish look of the interior and exterior. I’m also okay with the gas mileage.

Suggested Improvements

I wish that fog lights were standard rather than having to get them installed. I would like brake lights that show up brighter in the day. I would also like a plug for my ipod.

Review

It has been a month and 1,000 miles since we got our Odyssey. I am very impressed with the van and I am very happy with the buy. The van drives very smooth and plenty of power and good agility. It is also very roomy and comfortable. We have 2 car seats and the interior room is great for our family. The sound system and the DVD player works great. The Navi and DVD are easy to use. I first thought there might be too many features to learn. But it only took me a short time to be very comfortable with all of the controls and features. The gas mileage is good for a vehicle this size, thanks to the cylinder deactivation. I get 18 to 23 combined both freeway and city.

Favorite Features

The Navi and DVD work great and are very easy to use. The sound system is decent, but sounds very good when you play DVD movies. The tri-zone climate control works good. The third row seat that folds flat into the floor creates good cargo room. (moved a desk and a book shelf in the back)

Suggested Improvements

The back up camera could be more clear with parking guide. The power sliding doors are slow but safe. NEED HID head lights. One more gear (6) would improve MPG even more. Ventilated front seats like Infiniti and Lexus (it is a $40,000 MSRP van) Live traffic update like the Acura MDX.

Review

Have a case open with Honda on these brakes. This issue has been known for over a year and a half and dealers have no fix, Honda says they are working on it. These brakes are firm when new but after a couple of thousand miles become soft. Note the several accidents involved with the brakes in Edmunds forum.

Favorite Features

Everything except the lousy brakes.

Suggested Improvements

Fix the brakes.

If in the market for a minivan, it is hard not to pick the Odyssey. While styling is never in the forefront in such a practical vehicle, this vehicle looks great. The engine is silky smooth, and the VCM is seamless. The DVD system allows all passengers in the 2nd and 3rd row to see and hear great, while the drivers can listen to the radio or just talk. The navigation system is among the best I have seen. The fold down third row is convenient. Access to all seating is easy for all from the youngest to oldest. Really no downside here.

Favorite Features

Engine; sound system, rear entertainment system; VCM; fuel economy; practicality; value; safety.

Suggested Improvements

HID headlights; more sweeping sun/moonroof; adaptive cruise control

Review

We recently purchased the EX-L model. We paid $28,200 including the audible back-up sensors (rear bumper) option. Tax, Tags, Title, processing fee was extra. We are disappointed after bringing the car home and discovering that there are latch anchors for only 1 car seat in the 3rd row. What that means is that we need to put our other two kids in the 2nd row seats. This eliminates your ability to slide one of the 2nd row seats up for easy access to the 3rd row. It also prevents mom from sitting in the 2nd row next to the newborn. The Toyota Sienna has latch anchors for 2 car seats in the 3rd row.

Favorite Features

Backup camera display in rear-view mirror

Suggested Improvements

2 latch anchors on 3rd row seats. Allow 2nd row left-hand seat to slide toward center like the right-hand seat can

Review

I have never owned a Honda but had seen and heard about the Odyssey and decided it was worth a look. We bought and have fallen in love with the van. We only have one child but really like the room, convenience, the ride and overall quality. My wife has been stuck on SUVs and has told me over and over again what a smart buy this van was and how she absolutely loves it. You will not be disappointed and can be comforted with the fact that as a Honda product your going to get the value (resale/residual) and the performance and life expectancy you expect. Oh and the gas mileage after 3,000 miles is pretty good. I can cruise at 75 and be on 3 cylinders. I'm getting about 22.5 - 25 city/hwy.

Favorite Features

Automatic sliding door. Rear camera (standard now on EX-L), Wheels, VCM, Steering wheel comfort. Leather is top notch. Cup holders everywhere. I paid what I should have: Invoice minus the marketing support money, plus the 0.9% financing. About 26,900

Suggested Improvements

Fog lights for every van. Color coded rock guards standard.

Review

We resisted a minivan for a while, but after another baby, took the plunge. The Ody test drove better than Sienna and my older son liked the look, so we traded in our Toyota Avalon. So far, we have returned to the dealer twice (a long drive and missing work) due to the TPMS light coming on. Each time they reset it/initialized it and then an hour later as I drove it home, it popped on again. VERY annoying and the stability control won't work when it's on, so also a safety issue. I do like how it drives and the looks of it, but didn't expect to be annoyed by Honda already.

Favorite Features

The roominess. Nice to drive

Suggested Improvements

Include crossbars with the luggage rack. Others do and that's lame to make people pay $300 more to add on later. Make air a bit quieter.

2008 Honda Odyssey LX 4dr Minivan (3.5L 6cyl 5A)

Review

Based on several reviews I bought Odyssey without much thoughts. It is a good van for family. But, now I have 900 miles in the car with an awful 10-11 miles/gallon city + fwy. I saw some others also complains about low mileage of odyssey. while my friends 2008 odyssey gives 21 mpg city + fwy in my driving. I took it to the dealer and they asked to leave the car for 3 days for fuel test with out any compensation for replacement car. In general the odyssey makes lot of noise.

Favorite Features

looks good. spacious interior. hard steering. rough and steady on road.

Suggested Improvements

uniform mileage in all the vans. If you say 16/23 and avg 20 mpg, all the vans should give that. Storage box between front seats.
