I have had many cars to 150,000 and now to 190,000 on a 1998 Buick with NO transmission failures. They were all GMs. And if I had failure at 60-, 70-, 80K, and ... Read More

It's because the Honda Odyssey is produced and engineered in the United States. Most of the common problems could have been avoided if it was produced in Japan instead. Suddenly I realized one thing, and only one thing can explain your position here that keep ignoring the facts, and keep comparing apple to orange, and keep jumping around. When we talk about 2nd. row you keep pulling in 3rd. row. when we talk about the structure, you keep pulling in transmission. when I ask you why Lexus use it, you keep saying it's just a marketing ploy, However, when I ... Then story broke on LA times, and soon after that an extend warranty was offered and Honda still did not admit that there was an issue. The official statement was that the failure was slightly higher than ... Read More

This engine is not new, and has been use since 1992 on the camry and so on. The sludge issue impacted 98 to 01 vehicles (engine was slightly modified toward end of 02). The statement "...the truth is, the new sienna got the same rating as the old ody..." is incorrect. According to iihs.org, all Sienna vehicles since 1998 have been given their highest ratings using their offset crash test. The 1999 to 2004 Odyssey did well... but is rated a little lower than the Sienna. According to nhtsa.gov, they both perform very well in direct frontal crash and side impact with the pre-2004 ... Or, it could be about bringing out the facts. Whatever works, right? Honda has been worried with average age of its typical buyer at 44 years (Acura is at 43) as of 2003. Surprisingly, it is below the industry average so these studies are part of marketing strategy, not only for bragging rights, but also to define the future. Toyota has been worried about it too. Road noise can sometimes be a very small part of the overall picture. If Honda has improved upon it, while improving every several other aspects, I think that would help maintain where the Odyssey started in Fall 1998. It is amazing to see how the current six year old model holds up given its mostly revised competition (in a June 2004 comparison at C&D, Odyssey took the top spot again, with ... Read More

The 2nd Generation Odyssey made it's debut in 1999, 2003 should be the last year. Concluding that the new 3rd Generation should be a 2004 Model.
