This sounds like a good price! I paid 25,500 plus TTL in the Memphis area. This was the lowest I could negotiate between three dealerships. After I negotiated the price of the new vehicle, I brought my trade into the equation. I ended up getting $2,000 for my 1996 Plymouth Grand Voyager with 182,000 miles (it was in excellent condition, and I had put $1,500 into it over the past 6 ... Read More

I also negotiated getting $2,000 for my 1996 Plymouth Grand Voyager that had 182,000 miles on it. Granted it was in excellentent condition, but it was still old with lots of miles. Actually, the demand for the Odyssey is in some way due in part because of Honda, who is keeping production down several hundred thousand when compared to the 400 + thousand a year Chrysler or Ford pumps out a year. It also means, for the vast majority of minivan shoppers, a reasonable priced reliable van with good cargo capabilities and the normal luxury necessities attract the most demand. (I.E. the Honda ... • Why has ONLY 1 DC minivan needed a transmission repair?

    Written by: carleton1 on Dec 29, 2001 9:07:58 AM

EXACTLY ONE of dozens of DC minivans owned by people we know has had transmission repair. It is a 1996 T&C LXi used in a business to tow trailers larger than is recommended. That transmission failed at 150,000 miles....NOT the absurd mileage eneth loves to exaggerate. Three Honda Accords had transmission failure at FAR FEWER miles than this one DC minivan(of 7 owned by people we knew in March 1999). Go ... Read More

  • Why we choose the vans we do...

    Written by: dave210 on Dec 22, 2001 8:52:35 AM

Everything is very subjective. The reason why we've had three Chrysler vans is because in 1988 and 1996, what other competition was there other than the Ford vans, and like now, they put all the luxuries in their vans back then that we liked. You don't know how amazing I thought our '88 Grand Voyager was with it's digital compass and temperature readout and of course the power seat. Back in ... Read More

arbac, all of the Volvos have (unfortunately; I like Volvos!) had below average reliabilty for the last few years. mchwe, as a Volvo engineer once said, safety is a lot more than just a few safety features or good scores in a couple of crash tests such as what you mentioned...it is the art of engineering an overall package. Most people get fooled into thinking that good crash test scores automatically ... Read More

It's a toss up. I myself have owned three Chrysler vans and the 2001 is far better built than the 1996. Granted, I was lucky that after 48,000 miles, my 1996 LXi was perfect other than the phantom windshield wipers and phantom door locks it had, which were fixed. But the 2001 truly does seem to be more upscale and solid than the 1996. About the resale....well it's crap. There's no ... Read More

Hotspur keeps boasting about how many possitive reviews the Ody has been given over the last few years as if the same cannot be said for DC minivans. In fact, this is not true and I think in this post I will successfully prove my point. • DTKWOK: Do you remember Tayalynn who got rid of her 1999 Odyssey after it had so many problems?

    Written by: carleton1 on Jun 10, 2001 8:33:03 AM

Obviously the Odyssey track record is NOT as good as DC minivans for 1999. There were far more problems reported by Odyssey owners for 1999 than were for DC minivans even though DC outsold Odyssey by many times. Can the Odyssey do better? I certainly hope so as I recommended an Odyssey to my sister and brother-in-law. I do know of one DC minivan owner who had to have engine work ... Read More

Road noise by grand. Best thing to do is test drive 2001 DC van and compare. As Buddy Hackett once said " I didn't know how bad heart burn was until one day I didn't have it." Same for noise Hot spur That DC commisioned the AMCI comparison might make the results suspect but not necessarily bogus. As to noise, wife and I drove to Honda dealership in a 1996 I&C. ... "1. If you had to do it all over again, would you still by the Honda Ody?" Without question we would still buy the Odyssey. I read and researched mini vans for 6 months before we made our decision. I then shopped for two weeks before we made a deal on an EX ($1000 below MSRP, $25,840 plus tag and tax). We picked up our 2001 SS EX that on Jan ... Read More

Based on some comments I read here, and their close proximity, I went to Honda North in Danvers. They offer a no haggle price on all their cars. You can see all their prices on their website: http://www.hondanorth.com/ In the case of the Odyssey, they sell at straight MSRP with no required add-ons. I put down a $500 refundable deposit at the beginning of January. I was quoted a March/April delivery ... Read More

Hi...I just picked up my 2001 SS EX after exactly a 3 week wait. I have had alot of experience with minivans over the past 5 years. I had a 1996 Plymouth Grand Voyager, a 1998 Windstar and a 2000 Windstar. I have had such bad luck with the other vans, I just hope that Honda stands behind it's name, and this van is reliable. Can you please provide a link? The JD Power dependability ratings I've seen did not break down reliability by model, only by manufacturer. They also didn't show the positions of any company below average. I know these ratings can be had if you are a subscriber (VERY costly), so I'd be interested to know if it's on the web somewhere. I do know that the initial quality ratings are often published ... Read More
