BuickBoy I went to a local transmission shop which was highly recommended. He rebuilt the trans and replaced the cracked motor mounts (broken probably as a result of all the lurching, etc). Cost me $1650. Sold the van as I didn't want to endure another repeat and be out another $1650 or $5000 as some folks have reported here. It's because the Honda Odyssey is produced and engineered in the United States. Most of the common problems could have been avoided if it was produced in Japan instead. Hi all; I am soon to be in the market for a used minivan. My last 2 vans were Toyota Previas. I had my heart set on an Odyssey until I started reading about all the known transmission problems. My budget is tight, around $4000, so I am going to end up with something considerably older. My question is, is there a "safe" period for the Odyssey before the transmission problems ... Read More

I am still driving my 1995 Odyssey, the very first year it came out and have had no issues with it so the so called theory of never buying a first year model isn't always true.
After driving my 1995 Odyssey for the past 15 years with 474,000 km on it the 2011 has been a God send for me. I couldn't imagine driving anything bigger but that's me.
I have a beloved 1995 Honda Odyssey 4 cylinder 168k miles.
