spunjorno, A while back you suggested that to optimize mileage, you should try to drive on the electric motor only for a long as possible. You described this as "free mileage". I would have to disagree with that recommendation and here's why... The purpose of a gas/electric hybrid design is to reap the advantages of two different power sources, an internal combustion engine and an electric motor. Small internal combustion engines ... I've got a 2000 Insight. The battery was replaced in 2006 by the dealer after I received a recall notice. It had 86,000 miles at the time. My IMA light just came on (at 152,000 miles) and the dealer says that it needs another new battery but it isn't covered under warranty. He also says that the battery they put in 4 years ago was "reconditioned" not new, and that all ... Read More
I ordered an Insight and knew more than the dealership about the "new" model. My salesman, from whom I bought my Civic Hybrid in 2006, says I am the first to order one from big Berlin City Honda in NH. He said it should arrive in May, perhaps late April, and my request for a dark red EX with Navi evoked more questions than answers. He thinks it may be the ... Read More
I have a 2006 honda insight my milage is around 55.6-57.5 I take it pretty easy but drive the Oregon coast Hwy101 most of the time which is fairly hilly but I see people post mileage of 60 plus. Just wondering if this seems about right.
Let's talk about the new Insight, coming in April 2009 to the USA. Will it give the Prius a run for it's money? http://www.autoweek.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080904/FREE/809049997/1065 The Honda Insight is back, this time with room for three more passengers. Honda has revived the model name for the long-awaited dedicated hybrid vehicle tasked with taking on the Toyota Prius. And like its rival, it will be a five-door, five-passenger hatchback. A concept version of ... Read More
Yes, Insights are very hard to get. I ordered mine in September 2005, and took delivery 30 March 2006. (The factory didn't begin manufacturing cars for the waiting list until December 2005.) I had to take a silver one because the red color was "discontinued." But I love it! To answer your question, it's perfect for a single guy. It is a chickmagnet, but it's also much more efficient to drive ... Read More
Seems to me they are not really interested in selling this car Bingo! It is a big money loser for Honda. The only reason they keep it is to maintain the highest mileage vehicle on the EPA list. I have not seen one on a dealers lot here in San Diego for several years. Honda is not pushing the hybrids very hard. I am surprised they are supplying so many Civic ... Read More
I actually looked at all three candidates, for brevity Prius=P, Honda Civic Hybrid=C, Insight=I I decided what my goals were: (1) good miles per gallon (2) relaible (3) maual transmission (4) fun-to-drive ( some performance, some handling) (5) cost effectiveness- not just mpg savings (6) features Now add Now 2006 Honda Civic SI 6-speed coupe w/NAV = S (1) P=++, C=++ I=+++ S=+ (2) P=+++ C=+++ I=+++ S=+++ (3) P=--- , ... larsb said : "Regardless of the "mostly fictional" EPA ratings, getting low 40s from a very well equipped midsize car that is not polluting like a diesel is unheard of in the USA except for the Prius. I've been looking to purchase a hybrid car for a couple of weeks now. I've test-drove the HCH, the Prius, and also the Civic GX (Compressed Natural Gas vehicle). Each one has it's own advantages and disadvantages. Check out www.edmunds.com to compare these vehicles. I was thinking about purchasing the Civic GX, but the home refueling station cost about 3k to purchase and install and there are limited natural gas refueling ... Read More
Old news. Honda has already manufactured all the 2005 Insights they will ever make & closed shop. In August they'll tool up again & start making 2006 models.
Agreed the Del Sol never seemed to be a hit, which is puzzling for the following reasons: 1) I owned a VW convertible and had the top slashed and radio stolen. The Del Sol top would have acted like a hard top and probably prevented that from ever happening. 2) The Del Sol is quieter than a "Rag Top" convertible when the top is on. 3) You can roll down the ... and you won't see a Del Sol version of the Insight. The Indsight has horrible sales and is still a money loser for Honda. 2005 is tha last year and it is special order only. Honda will be bringing a new smaller car next year (2006) named the Fit/Jazz to complete with the Scion and CE Corolla. There will also be a SI perfomance hatchback. Additionally there will also probably be ... Read More
