hi margeauxl1 check out insight central, lots of people with this problem including me. Mine was caused when i had my windshield replaced by a non-honda place and when they took of the molding/trim above the door they broke of some of the plastic clips which let the water channel down the door pannel where the seat belt assembly is. Also i had the roof repainted and when they removed the ... Read More
What would be your charge and warranty for a new IMA battery unit for a 2003 Honda Civic Hybrid? Like you, I do not feel easy about spending $1500 for a "refurbished" IMA battery unit. The older batteries will fail sooner than later, and I'll be in the same predicament I am in now.

Ron- spoke to you once and can't figure out how to get back to you. Replaced my Honda Hybrid Battery pack with one from a car that had been totalled. It was easy and I now have the old 2003 honda hybrid civic battery. What should I do with it? Do you want it to rebuild? Free to a good home.
Just a heads up for everyone: I just had my 2004 Insight battery & control module replaced under warranty. I'm the original owner and have 51,000 miles on the car. The IMA light came on and the dealer recommended the replacement, gave me a free loaner while it was being done, etc. - I was treated well... That's the good news. The bad news is that the new battery and control ... Read More
repost of #245 without link to other forum, sorry 'bout that Early you were referring to the transmission as CVT se one of your earlier posts: #54 john1701a, "Hybrids: Toyota Prius vs. Honda Civic Hybrid v. Honda Insight v. ?" #54, 3 Dec 2003 12:31 am 1. some people call it a transmission there was a lot of debate about that. 2. they are called gears, just by their specifc name ... Read More
Hi all; I am new to this forum. Just thought I would report I am very pleased with my 2003 Insight. The car is a pleasure to drive, and I often exceed 1000 miles on just 11 gallons. I have AVERAGED 86.2 mpg over 33,000 miles so far. I am a pilot and verify my numbers using my GPS and saving fuel receipts. Generally, I just put a little extra air ... Read More
"The number of each type of hybrid electric vehicle tested, the total miles accumulated, and average fuel economy to date include: * 4 Honda Civics, 284,000 miles and 38.0 mpg * 6 Honda Insights, 347,000 miles and 46.0 mpg * 6 Toyota Prius (model years 2002 and 2003) 380,000 miles and 41.1 mpg, and * 2 Toyota Prius (model year 2004) 16,000 miles and 44.6 mpg" http://www.fuelcellsworks.com/Supppage907.html Dennis
Gillam Honda has two new 2003 Insight CVTs for sale :)They siad they are geeting a 5-sppe Insight with AC in and also could order one, but I will belive it when I see it. All other Houston areas dealeres say they can't get anymore. #1 what tire upgrade did you do? How much did it affect your mileage.
Of the 2003 Prius, 2004 Prius, the Insight and the Civic Hybrid. The "real-world tested" economy tests runs, on an 18 mile city/highway loop in California, with all four cars driven over two days, NOSE TO TAIL, came out as follows: Name City/Hwy/Combined Insight - 55/67/60 2004 Prius - 52/54/53 2003 Prius - 50/54/52 Civic Hybrid 43/50/46 MT seemed to like the new Prius as the best car overall, siting ... Is a 2003 Isight worth buying? What should the price be? It seems as the new 2004 Prius will elcipse the Honda Hybreds. Honda salesmen don't even carry the insight at lagre dealerships. The Insight and this board appear to be dead.
I agree there is no concrete number on how much Honda and Toyota are losing on each vehicle. It's certain that they are losing money, even though the sticker is already considerably above other similiar non-hybrid products. The $20K is an estimate by industrial analysts. I don't think it's right on the money, but probably in the ball park. Eitherway, like you said, the Prius and Insight are concepts, not meant ... Read More
First, I wouldnot believe an automaker losing $20K on each car. (I've not heard this from Honda, although they have quoted it that the car is not profitable). Secondly, I could see Insight as a concept, not a mainstream car. To be able to put a successful mainstream (mass production car) like Civics or Corollas, the technology has to be competent with the rest of the world. As I said earlier, ... Read More
Wenyue, But Honda made two statements (from CNNfn site)… - Increase in Insight production - Using hybrid technology in a mainstream car for 2001 model (likely to be the Civic… perhaps something like Civic HX that was introduced as 1997 model to provide the first CVT car to us, and is still the middle model in the Civic coupe lineup, and then Civic GX) Honda has promised launch of a car ... Insight and Prius may or may not be practical today, but they are the benchmark automobiles for the new era. Honda showcased the first fuel cell powered car (Honda FCX sedan), and promised to put one in market as early as 2003 (Tokyo Motor Show). Now at NAIAS, Detroit, Honda made a statement about next generation Honda engines, ultra clean, 10-20% more power (and low end torque as well), and 20-25% ... Read More
