2009 Honda Fit 4dr Hatchback (1.5L 4cyl 5A)

Review

We purchased our base fit in February and at first the mpg were okay (about 30 mpg). As we became familiar with the car and became diligent in watching the mileage bar and adjusting our style of driving we steadily over time increased our mpg. Last fill-up we got 36.5 mpg comb. city/highway. This car is like a hybrid without batteries. It is unbelievable. The only problem I see is that the mpg bar should be used only as a guide. When we got 36.5 the mpg bar said we were getting 40 mpg. On this tankful it is registering 42 mpg on the mpg bar. So we're probably getting 38-39 mpg comb. This car really should get a tax credit like hybrids it is that good. We have put on 2,300 mi.

Favorite Features

This car mpg. feature is very helpful in showing people how they can adjust their ways of driving and help your wallet and environment at the same time. This car was rated 1 out of 37 in one of the testing groups and deserves it. I wished the carpeting was a better quality though.

Suggested Improvements

If Honda made a hybrid Fit as I read about in one of the publications I was reviewing I think they would corner the market. I would think a hybrid Fit would get in the 50 mpg range, since we are getting in the upper 30's. I would think it would outdo the Insight and Prius.

2009 Honda Fit 4dr Hatchback (1.5L 4cyl 5A)

Review

I researched this car for over a year and waited for 2009 Fit Sport. Purchased it mainly for fuel economy, fun to drive and low cost of ownership. After 3300 miles the car has gotten progressively worse mileage as it's broken in, not better. I can't see how people achieve such high mileage figures. Great little car in every way but greatly disappointed in fuel mileage.

Favorite Features

Good interior. Superb visibility. Great steering and handling. Spacious inside for such a small car. Paddle shifters.

Suggested Improvements

No center console. Better mileage. Better air conditioning system.

2009 Honda Fit Sport 4dr Hatchback (1.5L 4cyl 5M)

Review

I had an 89 and a 97 Honda Accord before this so I'm a bit of a die-hard Honda automobile fan. I've been eying the Fit even before the new model change and I am glad I decided to get it. It's no hybrid, but I still enjoy the mpg I get from it - and it's cheaper. It's fun to drive, the Magic Seats are functional/practical, not only is the car bigger than it looks, all the windows make it feel even more spacious. It's got a great engine and the car runs great. Anyone complaining about comfort or performance needs to be reminded that this is not a sports/luxury car... it's a compact car that is great on fuel economy, looks good, fun to drive, and reliable - it's a Honda. Drive it and see...

Favorite Features

Blue illuminated gauges are very stylish, the USB plug, Magic Seats, the design, the average MPG gauge (it's addicting to try to beat it), according to the gauge, I'm averaging 42.1 mpg (I'm at 400 miles right now), there are so many different things that are great, you just have to find your own!

Suggested Improvements

Sun visors are not very functional aside from straight down, one less cup holder for a loose change slot instead, panoramic roof would be crazy cool, two trip meters, arm rest for passenger or a bin in between the driver and passenger seat would be great... black headlight housing for a JDM look.

2009 Honda Fit Sport 4dr Hatchback (1.5L 4cyl 5A)

Review

I've purchased this new 2009 Fit (Sport, auto). Exceptional fuel economy. Exceeded EPA rating!!! Have put 650 miles on it and the mix drivings: 39/44.7/42.3 (fastest speed is 80/85 mph and slowest is 40/45 mph) - Would recommend this lovely car to anyone! I can see the new EPA as of 38/48/45 pretty soon after engine breakdown.

Favorite Features

Excellent handling/performance. Roomy inside- Beautiful interior design- Do not feel bad road noise as rated by many others, even with a speed of 80/85 mph. Feels great and comfortable when getting in and driving.

Suggested Improvements

Missing center console and armrest on passenger side. Headrest should be adjustable.

Better than my mazda 3 hatch

Review

I traded my 2007 Mazda 3 hatch M in for the fit. I have to say I like this car much more. In every day driving this car puts a bigger smile on my face. Obviously you can't push it as hard and when passing on the highway the Mazda was far superior. Seriously though, this car just makes you smile every time you get in it. If you can drive a manual car this is so fun to shift and smooth with a little practice. The ride is smooth for a car of this class Engine noise is a bit loud at high revs, and wind noise is a slightly intrusive at highway speeds but never punishing. I forgot how fun it is to drive a small low powered car hard.

Favorite Features

* The manual transmission wants to be shifted and shifted often. * When driving you don't feel like you're in a sub compact. Can't believe how much room you have. * The folding seats are so easy to use * The dash is in a nice blue light with no split tier dash like the civic

Suggested Improvements

* No floor mats. Bought factory ones for the fit for $70. * With the base model you don't get an arm rest up front. Every thing else you get on the sport is nice but its a want, not a need. But no arm rest really Honda, don't be that way. Bought a factory one for $150.

Review

I agree with all the positives that people have included in their reviews. I look forward to driving my Fit each day. I have read many of these reviews and have been surprised that not one person, as far as I have read, has complained about the door panels where your elbow rests. If you use your elbow and lift yourself up a bit to adjust your seating position, it causes these areas to now be cracked underneath the fabric. You can't see it but you can feel it with your finger if you lightly push down on it. This has now happened to both front doors and one of the back ones. I hope it is covered under warranty.

Favorite Features

Looks, handling, MPG, cargo space, seating capacity.

Suggested Improvements

Reinforce the door panels where the elbows rest, passenger front center arm rest, make a Fit Si version with the Civic Si engine.

2009 Honda Fit Sport 4dr Hatchback (1.5L 4cyl 5M)

Review

This car is amazing in many respects and disappointing in a few. It's very roomy and versatile, surprisingly comfortable, and handles outstandingly well. The performance/economy compromise is okay but only just. My city mileage is about 29 and on the highway it will get 32 to 37 depending on the speeds involved (note that this is 4-5 mpg less than the mileage meter indicates). A sixth gear would be a big help. Worst feature is the ride, which is a lot stiffer than other cars I've had and driven of about the same wheelbase and weight. A lot of the interior seems to be made of flocked cardboard; Honda evidently thinks it has a good enough quality reputation to get away with this.

Favorite Features

It's cute and fun to drive - a happy car that makes other drivers happy, too. And it's a Honda, so it will doubtlessly be cheap to service and as dependable as night and day.

Suggested Improvements

Things like outside temp display, heated mirrors and auto AC are available in other markets. How about an EX model with those features for US? Honda could let Citroen engineers take a look at the ride comfort (but don't let them have anything to do with building the car!).

Review

Loved this car so much. Outstanding fuel economy: Mix driving 42 mpg (with fastest speed up to 75mph and slowest is 40mph)- City driving is from 35 to 37 mpg. My new Fit has less than 300 miles on it. Too sure it will get up to between 47 and 50 mpg (mix driving) easily when engine breaks in. Great visibility. Looks great both in and out. Beautiful interior. Spacious. Magic seats. Great handling. Fun to drive. Exceeded EPA rating (27/33/30)---> NEW EPA RATING SHOULD BE: 35/45/42.

Favorite Features

Beautiful interior. Comfort seats. Great handling. Roominess. Exceptional fuel economy. New EPA rating should be 35/45/42.

Suggested Improvements

Center console, passenger armrest should be added.

Review

I've just purchased 2009 Fit Sport (auto) and drove around town today 06/10/2009. Excellent handling & outstanding fuel economy. My (mix driving on both freeway/city, highest speed is 75-80 and slowest speed is 30 plus many stops) average mile per gallon is 41.9 - Great visibility/performance/handling/space. I believe I can bring 9 or 10 more miles per gallon when the engine breakdown (mix driving). Test drove Insight 2010, Prius II, Civic Hybrid 09, Civic 09, Accord 09, Camry 09 but only felt in love with Fit 09. Just share with you all about the drive-out price as well: $18.2k (wheel lock, cargo tray, carpet floormats included).

Favorite Features

Exceptional fuel economy - Beautiful interior - Looks sporty outside - Excellent visibility/handling/performance - Paddle shifter on steering wheel - spaciousness inside - My two 6 foot girls are sitting on rear seat comfortably.

Suggested Improvements

Missing center console and an armrest on passenger side - No traction control added (really sad) on this Sport model (Sport w/Navigation, top of the line model only has this function).

Review

Bought this car moving down from a Ford Escape. Haven't missed the larger vehicle because of the feel of space in the Fit. The Sport truly has a 'sport' feel and the fuel economy is wonderful. The car is tight and quiet and gives that feeling of pleasure every time I get behind the wheel.

Favorite Features

Fuel economy and quality of construction

Suggested Improvements

clutch could be smoother in lower gears
