Honda adds features every year - some new, some that used to be options. I urge you to wait for the 2006. Very likely it will have stability control and side curtain airbags, features introduced last year on the CR-V. Honda can't afford to let the Element languish when the CR-V has so many extra safety features, especially now that the Insurance Institute is starting to side-crash vehicles and up the ... I love my Element! It is Fiji Blue and beautiful. I am a tall guy, 6'2 and I needed something that was large and had decent fuel economy. This was my first buying experience with a car and it was very interesting. Everyone is usually happy when buying a new car, but I had to "haggle" with 2 dealerships which made my first experience very stress. Now that I have mine ... Read More

The CR-V just got the 5AT with the 2005 mid-life design refresh. The Element is a year behind the CR-V's production cycle, so it is likely that the E will get the 5AT with its mid-life refresh for 2006. I expect it will get the standard VSA, ABS, and airbags, as well.

Andy, thanks for the info, but why do you recommend waiting for the 2006? Are they upgrading the Element model in any way? BTW, I didn't plan on a purchase until early 2006 anyway. Also, thanks for the accessories website. I will check it out. Someone recommended that accessories could be purchased on e-Bay for far less than the prices offered by the Honda Corporation. Is this true? If so, I ... Read More

We don't know that the refresh includes side curtain airbags. It may not. Most likely the refresh will include standard ABS and seat mounted torso airbags (the same ones that are now available as an option), new paint colors, new tail lights, revised grill, bumpers, wheels and seat fabric. Honda has not promised side curtain airbags on all vehicles until the end of calendar year 2006. It would be nice if ... Read More

Put yourself in Honda's shoes. Would you spend a whole lot of money making changes to vehicle that is scheduled to get a complete overhaul one year later? That is why late upgrades are very rare. If Honda sticks with the 5 year cycle (and there's nothing to suggest that they won't), the Element should get a refresh for the 2006 model year. This refresh should include the curtain style airbags ... Read More

As posted above, Honda has stated that they will be adding several safety features (ABS, VSA, airbags, etc.) to all their light trucks by the end of calendar year 2006. The Element appears to be on a 5 year design cycle, just like most every other Honda product. In the fourth year of a five year cycle, the vehicle will get a refresh. This year was the CR-V's refresh. It got ... Read More

Maybe, but the Element has a unique design. Honda's commitment isn't until the end of calendar year 2006 for a reason. Maybe the suicide doors or something else about the design of the Element precludes installation of effective side curtain airbags.

I looked at the Honda web link again and it says "before the end of calendar year 2006." By that time, the completely redesigned 2007 Element will be out. That probably means they won't bother with side curtain airbags for the current design of the Element.

Honda has stated that all of their SUVs will get standard ABS, VSA, and airbags by the end of the 2006 calendar year. So the Element should be getting that next year. Essentially, Honda works on a five year plan with their cars. The car is completely redesigned for the first year. Years 2 and 3 will see only minor upgrades based on consumer complaints or adjustments to content because the ... Read More

Footie - Check your tires for flat spots. Side Curtain Airbags For the past year, Honda has repeated that they will be offering side curtain airbags (with roll-over inflation), ABS, and other features on all trim levels of their SUVs. The goal is to have this equipment standard by the calendar year 2007. The second gen Element isn't due until the model year 2008. That means the last year (2007) would ... Read More

When the new low-sulfur diesel fuel becomes standard in the US in 2006, will the Element get the option of 2.4 liter diesel engine in the Euro Accord? I suppose by then, the Element would be a 2007 model and Honda might just wait for the next generation Element in 2008 or so instead of bothering with this one.
