2004 Honda Element LX Fwd 4dr SUV (2.4L 4cyl 5M)

Been driving my E for 5 month now, lov'n it ever since the day i bought it. Not a high performance car but great for what i pay for. Suggest to get the EX model if your planning to buy a stick shift, where only EX come with a right armrest on the driver seat. Sunroof not recommended unless off road camping is your favorite activity. It's quite difficult to get any thing (including passengers) out the back seat in a tight parking lot (common problem with suicide doors). Large blind spot on driver side, suggest adding a smaller rear view mirror on the left side. Adding bigger and deeper trays in the middle, where things are not easily bump out to the back.
Favorite Features
overall interior space, funky design, interior flooring, waterproof seat, large windshield view, easy handling, acceptable gas milage, comfortable seating, decent price, more than what i bargain for.
Suggested Improvements
driver armrest for all models, enable to open the trunk within the car. better milage, better suicide door design.

i love my e. it handles like a dream in the snow, the first vehicle i've owned that does. the only regret that i have is that i didn't get a 2005
Favorite Features
subwoofer, the waterproof seats, how easy it is to clean and how roomy it is
Suggested Improvements
make the driver's seat not click when you accelerate if you have it all the way back, kinda annoying.

I test drove this car as a goof. I immediately loved the comfort and it's ride. I was pleasantly surprised. I commute about 45 miles each way to work and this is pure fun to be in. I know the look is strange but this car is functional. It's not as spacious for cargo as our Odyssey but it makes up for it in many other areas. We had our first snow of substance last weekend. We had 18 inches. Before the plows came down our street, I tested the real time 4 wheel drive. It was spectacular. I was impressed. It did not spin or swerve. It grabbed the road and I felt in control. Excellent job, Honda. We have 4 Hondas (Odyssey, Accord, Civic) and this is my favorite. I'd recommend it to all.
Favorite Features
Great stereo. Easy to clean interior. I have the winter mats and this is recommended. Great comfortable seats. I spent the little extra to get the side airbags model. I love the alloy wheels. They are easy to clean. Not much brake dust to contend with. I don't mind seeing others laugh at it.
Suggested Improvements
I'd like to see an outside temperature reading. I did see an Element while we were visiting our daughter at school. It was orange but all the panels and bumpers were painted orange. It looked great. That would be a nice option to change the look a bit. More closed compartment space wanted.
Highly versatile, Honda quality

I'm at the opposite extreme from Honda's target market (Gen Y) for the Element -- I bought this car as an eminently practical solution to multi- function "retirement car" needs in rural Puget Sound. It regularly surprises and pleases with its thoughful practicality, abundant capacity, eager performance, and unperturbed handling on less-than- ideal road conditions. After 4 months and 5K miles it has yet to reveal a flaw in build quality. The Element's design requires some getting used to. The "window sills" are unusually high, and visibility on the flanks is iffy; the wide-opening clamshell doors make loading tough in tight parking stalls. Overall, it's a winner!
Favorite Features
Very practical, thoughful design; typical "Swiss watch" Honda drive train, very high initial build quality. Seating is surprisingly comfortable.
Suggested Improvements
Glass roof is in the rear, a placement with few or no advantages.

I just bought a new left over 2004 Element last week. Needless to say I was curious how it would handle the Blizzard of 2005. I was out in it all day Saturday and while other cars were stuck, my E just kept crusing along. I took it into a state park with 6+ inches of plowed snow on some back roads and it never missed a beat. The versatility is great and the ride is better than my 02 Civic. You'll love those wash out floors!!
Favorite Features
Stereo, AWD, Cargo Capacity, Looks, Suicide Doors, Room Back Seats, Great Ride even when the wind was blowing 40 mph this weekend.
Suggested Improvements
Radio controls on the steering wheel, Power Sunroof. But these are pretty darn minor compared to all the great things it has.

After driving my '04 Element for 7+ months now, I couldn't be happier with my purchase. This is one versatile vehicle, which does many things capably and some things brilliantly. A bit of background: I've owned a stupid number of vehicles (about 20) in the last 20 years, everything from tiny sports cars to vans to SUVs to pickups, and the Element seems to me to be unique in that it has at least a little something that's desirable in all those segments rolled into one vehicle.
Favorite Features
Great interior room/cargo area, yet small exterior footprint. Ability to squeeze into that small parking space! Low-maintenance interior. Good baby-and- kid hauler. Decent miles-per-gallon. Good handling. Acceleration OK with 5- spd. AWD gives good performance in snow/rain. Nice stereo.
Suggested Improvements
Better gas mileage, but that's about it. Look, Honda took an existing platform and in my view banged out a funky, practical, versatile vehicle. Sure there's all kinds of compromises involved (weight, engine size, aerodynamics, you name it) but I still marvel at how useful (and fun) the Element is.

I love driving this little big utility suv. My job requires me to haul some things and it fits the bill just right. I feel like I am driving an expensive SUV but I am not. Mileage is really good. Love it, Love it.
