2004 Honda Element EX AWD 4dr SUV w/Side Airbags (2.4L 4cyl 5M)

Review

I bought the Element because of its versatile interior and waterproof qualities. It drives well for its height, not too much body roll. Wind is not as bad on the highway as you might think. It cruises easily at 75- 80, though the engine revs higher at this speed then some other cars I've driven. I have had 28mpg highway, and average above 20mpg for mixed driving. The plastic panels are easy and relatively cheap to replace if they get scratched or damaged.

Favorite Features

The plastic floor and tailgate are great for scuba divers. The folding rear seats are easy to use and reconfigure.

Suggested Improvements

Would not mind better mileage in the city. I would also prefer the AWD system to by a 50/50 spit front and rear all the time, instead of only when the front wheels slip. Better towing capacity would be great.

Review

I thought it was until we went to Italy and I saw some of the Fiat vans over there. We love our Element. We put 200k miles on a 1987 Real Time Wagon and that's why we bought Honda again. We're still driving the wagon to keep the local 'round-town miles off the Element. Element has entirely adequate power, tons of interior room if somewhat excessive headroom. Handles OK, rear seating is comfortable, but visibilty is limited from back there. What's with the sunroof in the back where you NEVER use it? Should have made seating for 3 in the back. There's room.

Favorite Features

Interior ROOM. Sexy styling! LOL &^)

Suggested Improvements

Move sunroof up front, add seating for 3 in rear, little more power would be OK, compass and outdoor temp indicator would be neat. Other than those nit- picky things, we LOVE it.

Review

We have only had the vehicle for 3 weeks, but we have already taken a trip with it and put on about 2,000 miles. The vehicle has surprisingly good pep, and the sound system is well above average. It rides well, has plenty of leg room (my 6'8" brother in law had room to spare in the backseat), low road noise and most of all, it is very functional. I have only two criticisms; first, I only averaged about 24.7 miles/gallon on interstate (which was a little disappointing). Second, when you fold up the rear seats for storage (which is really nice feature), you have greatly reduced visibility and are forced to use mirrors almost exclusively (I don't think Honda can help that though).

Favorite Features

I love the folding rear seats and the roominess. The 160 hp engine, with a manual transmission, also provides a surprising amount of pep. It is a very functional vehicle that lots of room in spite of its mini SUV status. It actually takes up less space in the garage than my wife's Accord.

Suggested Improvements

I would work on the fuel milage most of all. Everything else seems to be good. If gas keeps going up, that will be a big selling point. If you can keep the pep it has and get it up to about 30 mpg on the highway, you will have a slam dunk!

2004 Honda Element EX AWD 4dr SUV (2.4L 4cyl 4A)

Review

Just after buying our 2004 Element we took off on a long trip from Virginia to Florida. At 6'4" and 200 lbs., I have found the element to be a very comfortable car to drive. It performed flawlessly on the trip. I like it because of it's small size outside, yet it's huge on the inside. I'm very happy with mine, and would buy another.

Favorite Features

Fold up rear seats, dash layout very logical and easy to use, and I like the looks-something you either love or hate.

Suggested Improvements

Lower grille area to exposed to road debris, needs more protection.

2004 Honda Element DX Fwd 4dr SUV (2.4L 4cyl 4A)

Review

This is the vehicle I've been waiting for. I'm 6'3" and the Element has provided not only necessary leg room but also unexpected head room. As my sister said..."you fit in this car." Since purchasing it, I have driven from Chicago to Butte, MT and back and what has always been a long trip turned out to be a joy to drive. I have also moved to the DC area recently and with the rear seats folded I was able to transfer all those "little things" that you need upon arrival to the new apartment without any hassle. For those with a sense of individuality and a desire for quality, the Element meets both qualifications. P.S. The cat likes it too.

2004 Honda Element EX AWD 4dr SUV (2.4L 4cyl 4A)

Review

I drove the Element/CRV/Rav4 before buying. The Element won out because of its overall roominess; the rear area is cavernous! I love the high ceiling and how the seats move out of the way for carrying large items. Rear Leg is room is great even for tall people. The 10,000 mile (between) oil change engine is great and incredibly quiet. The gas mileage is very good; 24mpg. The 4cyl is plenty powerful, and there is very little body lean in turns. My improvement suggestions would be to have the tilt-wheel rise up higher, have a better center console, and do something about the easily scratched interior plastic. I also didn't like the "dealer" items which should be standard; ie the roof rack.

Favorite Features

The roominess, the convenient clamshell rear access, the poly-rubber flooring. I also like the good gas mileage (24mpg) for an AWD ute.

Suggested Improvements

Needs a better center console (though I didn't like the CRV's either), the tilt-wheel needs to come up higher (I'm tall), and the "biggie"....the interior plastic finish pieces scratch far too easily. I've seen other reviews stating the same thing, and it's very true.

Review

Verasatility is the main benefit to buying a Honda Element. The interior is roomy and functional. And you can do so much. Haul people, haul stuff, haul people and stuff. An amazing array of interior configurations. Outwardly, the car has a cool retro look. It's well made. Affordably priced. And amazing;y versatile. Did I say that already?

Favorite Features

Stereo. Suicide doors make for easy loading. Washable seats and interior make for easy clean-up. Theatre style rear seats are very comfortable and roomy. (And they easily fold out of the way.) Honda quality/ great safety features. Nice big tires.

Suggested Improvements

No stereo controls on the steering wheel. Engine is slightly under powered. Buying the stick version helps mitigate this problem. Exterior body, while stylish, it's not Jeep tough. How about some real bumpers?
