Blue, Thanks for the input. I got the ignition switch replaced in 2002, right after the recall was announced. Funny thing is, the car behaved just like what the recall indicated - the car just cut out in the middle of traffic, no warning. Only thing was, it never started up again. Keep it. For at least the next couple of years, your repair costs will almost certainly be less than what you'd lose in depreciation if you bought a new car. For example, a new $25K car will be worth at least $5K less by its 1st birthday, while your car's value will go down by only a few hundred dollars over the next year. My 110 K mile, 2002 CR-V's steering pump has been making a rattling or chattering noise. I flushed and replaced the entire steering system with new 'Honda' fluid. No change. If you live in Florida or California, you must purchase the extended warranty from the dealership as the States Law requires. I have had to do this in my state of Florida. Cost more as well and those that live in other states are lucky to have options that cost half as much.... Class Action may be the only recourse. My CRV is a 2002 but on two occasions once at around 40k miles and now again at 77k miles I have had significant repair costs for the A/C including a full replacement of Compressor, Clutch, Coil, Condenser Fan. My 2002 Honda CRV's AC compressor blew up and it cost me $1760 to repair. Metals damaged the whole ac system. I got 2 other quotes for the same about $1,700. One mechanic refused to give me a quote after a bad experience. He repaired a crv with this problem and the problem occured again. Needless to say, I am broke and very very disappointed. The end of May the alternator and starter were replaced( I was hearing a grinding noise) ;( and yes the check engine light just came on. Just gave the car to my daughter so I had the car serviced to make sure it would be running well. Maintenance is done following the Owner's Manual recommendations.
