2010 Honda CRV EX-L - Purchased

We were able to get a price of $25,900 for a 2010 EX-L in New England. I suggest checking out the pricing on cars.overstock.com, as they had the lowest guaranteed pricing and I was able to get another dealer to match the pricing. my CR-V, with 186,000 miles had the AC go out today. There was a little bit of smoke from under the hood before I turned the AC off. I dropped the car at my Firestone shop today, they will check it tomorrow. The mechanic took a quick look under the hood and said the compressor was trying to engage. I own a 2004 Ford Escape Limited. When my wife and I were shopping for her vehicle we test drove the CR-V as well from 2004. Its clear which SUV won. I also like the looks of the 2005-2007 Escape better then our 2001-2004 generation (front styling for the most part). The 2008 and up Escape is also nice but it "looks" a little bit less rugged and more gussied up bling-bling ... Read More...

The CR-V currently is on its 3rd generation (1997-2001)(2002-2006)(2007-currently) and the Escape is on its 2nd generation (2001-2007)(2008-currently) the fact that the CR-V is on its 3rd generation has nothing to do with how Honda's design may have flaws. What usually causes you to break down on older cars is the "little" stuff and drive belts fall in that category. I did my '99 minivan's belts last year and I'm sure they were overdue at 124,000 miles. But it's not just the miles, it's their age. In theory, most belts are good for 100k, but you should at least have them checked for cracks or excessive wear. (Tom's Corner ... Read More...

OK, thanks. I'll ask my mechanic what he thinks about the water pump. But what about the drive belts? Should they all automatically be replaced at this point? (I've got 65,000 miles on the car). Read More...

Not specific to Hondas, but I've been reading a few posts in recent months that discourage people from "automatically" replacing water pumps whenever the timing belt is replaced. Some mechanics seem to think they rarely fail. If I was doing a timing belt at 60k intervals, I might skip it the first time. For the 105k interval, I'd probably put a new one in. Read More...
