Review
I adore my car - somehow I lucked out and found one that is much, much quieter than most of the cars from this year. Handles well at all speeds, although periodically there is some steering wheel shake above 90 mph. I also have tested the gas mileage I get - several times- and I get somewhere between 25-28 mpg, as opposed to the reported 21 mpg. The breaks are excellent and very responsive. Tight turning radius. I love the column mounted steering design, but it takes some getting used to if you're switching from a regular sedan or SUV. The cup holders are weird, and the lock and window switch placement is bizarre.
Favorite Features
acceleration, turning radius, brakes...
Suggested Improvements
Most of the issues I have with my car were addressed in the new design...but they added a lot of things I find undesirable, which is why I went with the 2000 in the first place.

Ignore the owner's manual
Vehicle
2000 Honda CR-V 4 Dr EX AWD Wagon
Review
One caveat. If you follow the owner's manual on this model, you WILL have problems and perhaps MAJOR problems. Some idiot decided that US CR-V's (98-2001 only) get a 105,000 valve interval in the owner's manual while all other countries' manuals state 30,000 miles. If you attempt to go to 105K without the valves adjusted, the engine may not make it. Ask Honda if you don't believe me. Instead, have the local Honda Dealer run the valves every 30,000K. If you are not sure if this has been done, get it DONE ASAP. While you're there, have 'em do the rear 4wd fluid as well as they lied about that one as well. It needs to be done every 30K.
Favorite Features
Drives like a Civic, the 5 spd manual is BUTTER, and the engine, while it lacks low end grunt, will pull nicely above 4000 RPM
Suggested Improvements
Make the clock to where you can read it, easier rear hatch, more sound deadening (all taken care of on the 2002-2006.
Love my Cr-v

Review
I loved my cr-v very much. Good on gas, reliability is a plus. I was surprised with the picnic table, thought that was thought of Honda including it. Only thing I didn't like about the cr-v is highway uphills driving. There is a loud noise when you drive 70 mph or more. I hate that it can't handle curves and mountains. Other than that, I love my cr-v. I will be buying a 2006 next time. Hopefully honda has improve the cr-v.
Favorite Features
The table and that it saves on gas in the city.
Suggested Improvements
Improve on the gas mileage on the highway and please get rid of the noise when driving uphill. Needs more horse power.

Review
Everybody complains about the power. Well the later year CR-Vs, you got what you asked for, and the MPG dropped right along with it. Now the gas prices are out of sight and the most fuel efficient SUV of its time now gets a lot less than the 25 MPG it got in 2000. I'll never get rid of my 2000. It goes anywhere that any SUV can go. Great in snow. Roomy. Great on gas, and looks good. What do you want?

They fixed the rear window problem. And I agree that the window buttons should be on the door, but that's it.

Love my Honday

Review
I bought this last year and love it. I've got 228,000 km on it and it still runs like a charm. It's the 5 speed and I've still had new people drive it and thinking they stalled it, tried to start it again as the motor runs so quiet. Runs like a charm.
Favorite Features
I love the design inside. I love the comfort seat for the driver and the fact that the seats sit right up. I like being able to open the back to 90* with the table out back.
Suggested Improvements
Definitely need a little more power. It would be nice to rev a little lower on the highways for better gas mileage. It also seems to have problems with the driver's window coming off the track.

Transmission going
Vehicle
2000 Honda CR-V 4 Dr EX AWD Wagon
Review
76,000 miles, had new brakes at 50,000, now need new transmission. What's going on? I thought Honda cars lasted forever. What causes transmissions to go? What will the car do when the transmission goes? This car needs more zip & doesn't like sharp turns. I can feel the tendency to turn over.
Favorite Features
cargo space
Suggested Improvements
flat cargo space with back seats down, more zip, road noise

CR-V almost killed us
Vehicle
2000 Honda CR-V 4 Dr LX AWD Wagon
Review
I am very disappointed with my CR-V. As a matter of fact it was just towed away this morning. It broke down on the highway last Fri while I was doing 65 mph with my 9 yr old in the car. We could have been killed. The car was inspected last month by the dealership and it passed. This is the final straw. The car has been slowly falling apart. The glove compartment does not open. The rear door does not open. The seatbelts lock up for no reason and choke you. The clock broke long ago. The radio has stopped working at times. The key fob would not open the door for about a year and now that works again. It had to be opened using the key. It's been one thing after another.
Favorite Features
Best feature is fuel economy
Suggested Improvements
Needs improvement in every circumstance except fuel economy. The car is falling apart. I do not care for the new models at all. Why make them so small?

Excellent Small SUV
Vehicle
2000 Honda CR-V 4 Dr EX AWD Wagon
Review
Overall, a truly excellent car. Fuel efficient for an AWD SUV, versatile, comfortable, and fun to drive. The engine, though somewhat underpowered, is still responsive and the CR-V is fun to drive, particularly with the manual transmission. I bought it in 2005 with 68,000 miles and now have 136,000 on it, and I have only had to fix one thing that wasn't standard maintenance (driver's side power window). Highly recommended for anyone who wants a reliable, safe, and fun small SUV. Have gotten about 25 mpg overall mileage-wise, which isn't bad considering the AWD.
Favorite Features
Reliable, stylish, comfortable, and fun to drive. Very useful and practical. Good for day to day running and long trips (I've done 800 mile trips with great comfort). Great car overall.
Suggested Improvements
Power windows are weak and the engine could use a little more power (although I've always found it to be adequate). The main issue I've found is that Honda parts and accessories are quite overpriced and getting harder to find for this year--the Honda dealerships can be somewhat arrogant sometimes.

Buy this car!
Vehicle
2000 Honda CR-V 4 Dr EX AWD Wagon
Review
Bought this car new in 2000. I had owned Honda cars in the past and trusted them to be reliable. As of today (5 May 08), my trusty CR-V has nearly 150,000 mile on it and still runs perfectly. All I have done is change all the fluids regularly and drive it gently. I changed the timing belt at 100K, but other than that, it has never been in the shop for anything. Still has the original brakes. Paint is still in good shape, too. I like the fabric seats. Tons of space in the rear. Easy to clean. I'd buy another in a heartbeat, but I don't think this one will ever wear out.
Favorite Features
Good sound system. rear seats very easy to fold down and that leaves LOTS of cargo space. Lots of ground clearance (easy to change my own oil).
Suggested Improvements
Engine needs a few (actually, lots more) more pony's (I think that has been addressed since 2000, though). The body seems to be made of tin foil, so try to avoid hail storms. Move the oil filter to the front of the engine.

My Crv
Vehicle
2000 Honda CR-V 4 Dr LX Wagon
Review
We bought a CR-V the frist of January in 2000. We have had it ever since the car is just amazing. It's fuel efficient, looks great, has lots of low end torque, the smoothers ride and just the reassurance of Honda quality. We just bought the lx model nothing special, front wheel drive not the real time. But I have gone over hills and rocks and steep slopes and everything in this car and not once has it ever failed.
Favorite Features
the safety of front wheel drive and oh my god the 3rd gear in this can takes you up to 100! love it
Suggested Improvements
I put 06 Civic rims and switched over from 205's to 215's. The new tires and rims make it higher and set the tires out wider. And man o man it looks good. Also a k&n n air filter helped with some of the horsepower. A wise investment.
