Our 2014 CRV is a very nice, reliable and economical car. We have had a number of Hondas and find them to be a good value.
The CRV has excellent seat comfort and seating position, great visibility, good ride and handles well ... as long as you don't drive aggressively.
The sills are low - a good thing for over 60's getting in and out.
It has a real key - not a fob and starter button, a good thing.
We just did a 1400 mile trip and got great highway mileage (33+). As with all Hondas, there are minor annoyances that mar an otherwise great car. We considered similar Toyota, Mazda and Subaru models and liked the CRV best overall. There are issues (see below), but all cars have issues.
This is a solid car.
The cabin is quiet compared with the competition.
We like the seating position and the way the backup camera is set up.
The controls are straightforward and easy to use. We also like the fact that the rear seat leg and head room is great and the back, with the seats down, is roomy.
Honda has a gift for chintzing out by omitting features found on comparable models of other brands - annoyances, but not deal breakers.
First, Honda has no business offering a 5 speed automatic, where others offer six speeds.
This is important because the engine gets into top gear too quickly and the engine lugs.
The economy setting is useless with the current transmission - you get better mileage in the non-eco setting.
The cruise control is also useless - because of the shift patterns and the "lead foot" of the cruise control, it constantly downshifts.
Honda is the only brand not offering driver power seat controls in the mid range model - chintzy.
Honda needs to up its game in terms
My experience with the 2013 CR-V has not been as stellar.
1. Full-beam headlights are so poor they present a road hazard.
2. Fuel consumption in winter has been pathetic, 22 mpg at best and I am not an aggressive driver
3. In winter temperatures 20 degrees or below, cold air appears to penetrate all 4 doors and the heating cannot cope with the cold.
4. No power door for passenger and driver's door is limited in vertical movement.
In summary I am very disappointed with the CR-V EXL AWD, it is not a patch on my 2010 Odyssey for features and quality.
