Updating CRV bought new June 2011. Recent 3,000 mile trip across US, down to Mexico was a good test:
1) Excellent fuel economy -- ave 31 mpg overall
2) packed in more luggage than seemed possible
3) Very comfortable, fun to drive
4) smooth, excellent steering, sturdy suspension
5) amazingly stable to heavy cross winds
Large package in a small car; folding seats afford excellent storage capacity (although not as big the CRV replaced my Odyssey van, not bad)
Fun to drive, sharp breaks compared to soggy Toyota's
Great in town AND on the highway; excellent cruiser
Love the rubbery grip steering wheel + controls
Has lots of power; no problems overtaking on highway, just kick down smooth tranny and zip up to 85 mph
Top notch smooth, quiet 4 cylinder -- turns over at 2200 rpm @ 70 mph, incredible
Love watching the fuel meter, good for keeping a light foot!
Rear hatch lifts too high -- I already scratched it on the garage door hinges; new owners beware!!
A 5- or 6-speed manual transmission would be nice
Get rid of that silly small doughnut spare; I replaced mine with a full size spare that can be squeezed in the tire well; feel more comfortable in the middle of the desert now!
Could be quieter on rough road surfaces; needs more work on wind noise
