My wife and I were reluctant to purchase a 4cyl vehicle. We drive the WVA turnpike twice a wear which will definitely wring out a car. I expected the CRV to bog down somewhat, even withe the 180hp engine. The cruse was set for 70mph, the CRV had no trouble negotiating the hills and the transmission, electronic throttle worked synergisticly with the cruise. WVA turnpike cannot be driven at 70 a good deal of the time because of tight curves, but we still kept up with the faster traffic in the inside lane. The engine shifts down smoothly and maintains speed. Some hills were quite steep and increased grade as we ascended. I pushed the throttle and the CRV advanced to 80 without strain or thrash.
Leather seats were comfortable for entire 600 + mile trip. We drove from fill-up to fill-up without feeling cramped or stiff when we got out. We averaged 26.7 mpg and we we were hauling a 607 lb load including us. (Truck scale at farm co-op) Shelf in back comes in handy. Ride was firm but compliant.
Road noise on some surfaces was more than expected. Bridgstone tires? Wind noise seemed a bit high, though the cabin was quiet enough that when we talked our voices seem loud and with the radio on we heard nearly nothing else. (Trucks, horns etc.) Need mirror or other device to help with blind spot.
