Daughter had a issue with her 2003 Honda Accord. The engine would stall if either turn signal was turned on or if the brake pedal was pushed. I bought a new CRV EX AWD about 3 weeks ago at Duncan's Hokie Honda in Christiansburg, VA. I live in Roanoke and it was worth the drive. They had some dealer cash thing or something but I got the car for $23,800. They gave me $1,800 for my 2001 Toyota Corolla and I put $2,000 down. After taxes, fees, etc... It's recommended that the rear diff fluid be changed approximately every 15,000 miles. I'm shocked that you haven't noticed the noise before now? I bought my 2001 Honda w/27,000 miles on it and originally thought it was the brakes as well, until the mechanics explained it to me. I've faithfully had the rear diff fluid changed every 15,000 miles - the fluid itself to change runs about $85 at my dealership. ... Read More
Dear Mr. I sell..........I buy hondas several, and I agree there a good car BUT the CR-V issue should have been ironed out LOOONNGGG ago, one would think that BY now they resolved it. i had my a/c compressor go out at 36k miles on my honda crv 2001; now there is a loud whooshing sound from glovebox when i turn on heat. took to a closed shop today but mechanic/owner came out and told me it's the blower motor and will cost several hundred dollars. :( shouldn't this be an easy fix? the compressor was just replaced 7 months ago for 1500 dollars.
I don't know of any but i have a 2001 honda CRV and had to have the A/C compressor replaced at 36, 000 miles! now the blower motor is out.
There have been a couple of CR-Vs that have been modified, including turbo's, body kits, custom paint, and incredible sound systems. Been there done that, American Honda cant make the part appear OR cut the cost, the part needs to be recalled and unless the people with the problems call the NHTSA and file a complaint, there will be no recall. The 1997-2001 CRV's used a belt that should be replaced at 105,000 miles or 7 years. It's an expensive job but once it's done, it's done. We were able to get a price of $25,900 for a 2010 EX-L in New England. I suggest checking out the pricing on cars.overstock.com, as they had the lowest guaranteed pricing and I was able to get another dealer to match the pricing. OK, thanks. I'll ask my mechanic what he thinks about the water pump. But what about the drive belts? Should they all automatically be replaced at this point? (I've got 65,000 miles on the car).
Not specific to Hondas, but I've been reading a few posts in recent months that discourage people from "automatically" replacing water pumps whenever the timing belt is replaced. Some mechanics seem to think they rarely fail. If I was doing a timing belt at 60k intervals, I might skip it the first time. For the 105k interval, I'd probably put a new one in.

I have a 2001 Honda CRV, I tried to shift down from D to 2 or 1 but it stuck like D is the last thing. What's wrong with it ??
my honda crv 2001 makes a squealing noise when i turn with hard lock. it sounds as if its coming from the rear diff. can you tell me what this is adn what i can do about it?
Your most welcome... I agree in the long run your are better off with original honda parts, but the cost does hurt!... I have always been of the mindset (many will argue this) that the time/age of the vehicle & parts are not as important as the miles... Physical/material things (ie: timing belt) cannot tell time... but are more inclined to wear/fail with mileage, you are on the low end of ... Read More
Thanks - the mileage is 66,000, and I know because of the age of the car it's due to be changed (the dealer told me last summer). I have an ex-husband whose a mechanic, it's just a matter of actually getting him to check the belt that I see making the noise. I'd rather have the dealer do the replacement and end up with Honda parts, as opposed to taking it ... Read More
Is it true the timing belt won't give any warning? Since the weather has gotten colder, my 2001 Honda CRV has started making a high pitched whining noise when cold (it's a belt, and I can see it, so I'm almost sure it isn't the timing belt), and below 32 degrees. If it's warmer than that, there's no noise at all. My dealer is trying to tell me I need to ... Read More
I have a 2001 CRV which I have had maintaince done to the schedule in the owners manual. I now have 104,000 miles on it and 2 days ago it started running rough. Only to be told I burnt one of the intake valves. I am 2 hours from the nearest dealership and after talking with them they are telling me I should have had a valve adjustment every 30K miles-the ... I had my brand new CRV for 1 month and it locked up at 60 miles/hr. The entire differential was replaced after that, I'm still here to tell about it. There was no warning!! Two months later the typical grinding sound occurred from the differential and the dealership changed the oil and burnished the clutches. All covered under my extended warranty. Two month after that the grinding sound was back AND ... Read More
my son and i researched extensively between rogue, crv, rav4 and cx-7. all came fairly close, but in driving, rogue was the best of all worlds when combining comfort, safety, reliability, price and styling. honda's have an excellent reliability, but pricey; rav4 a little bigger, but my short wife had a rough time seeing out the back with the spare tire; cx-7 had great styling, handling and engine, but used only ... I, too, love my CRV (second one). I have a 2003. Just returned from tire store because new tires, I thought, were making a noise. Was told it was differential problem - Honda known for it. Called dealership and have an appointment for tomorrow. What chance do I have that this won't cost me? And, is it safe to drive? Immediately got on this site to check and see if others ... Read More
Thanks for the advice!! I saw the general manager today and he read the 07-024. He couldn't give me a recommendation on how often the fluid needs to be changed and couldn't guaranty that I wouldn't have to pay for it. I mentioned that this problem is on car sites since 2001 and he denied the reliability of the internet resources...ok he's a dedicated Honda man... . I asked him what ... Read More
Does the package include the water pump? The timing belt service at the dealer should be about $550 - $600 alone. It is recommended to replace the water pump at this time. Most of the charge is from labor. The belt itself is a $20-$30 part, but the tearing of the engine apart adds up. While you have it torn up, might as well replace the pump, which is driven by ... My 2001 Honda CR-V LX FWD has about 65,000 miles. 1. Whenever I get home from work (12 miles of driving one-way with freeway and local), I can sense a burning smell after I step out of my car. I cannot sense this burning smell inside my car, and I have never sensed this burning smell before. The burning smell does not smell like burning rubber, rotten eggs, old gym locker ... Read More
The dealer recommends a "timing belt package" that costs $695. Is it a rip-off? Thanks,
I have a 2001 CRV with 84,000 miles/NO warranty. The air compressor blew out. The day prior, there was a rattling, like a piece of plastic stuck in the air duct, coming from behind the glove compartment. The next day, which was 105 degrees, it sounded like a bag of bolts stuck in a garbage disposal. I immediately Googled CRV air compressor and found this forum. The next day I took ... Read More
"Hi. My compressor on my 2001 Honda CR-V (71,000 miles, no warranty) blew out over the weekend and I luckily found this forum yesterday." You are the first Gen 1 owner to report a compressor failure, I think. It is possible that you got an early model of the compressors that are failing in the Gen 2. Either that, or you are just unlucky (compressors do fail every now and then)... ... Read More
Hi. My compressor on my 2001 Honda CR-V (71,000 miles, no warranty) blew out over the weekend and I luckily found this forum yesterday. I called Honda America this morning and they told me to go ahead and take it to the dealer for a diagnostic eval. The dealer service rep told me that he could have offered me a great deal if I hadn't called Honda America first. My appointment ... Read More
I also have a 2001 CRV. Mine has 88,000 miles and no warranty. My compressor let go one day when I started my car. Like soldoncrvs said it sounded like "a bag of bolts stuck in a garbage disposal". Horrible sound to say the least. Also like soldoncrvs's car, mine was one of the last built in 2001. So, I am hoping the my fix will also be at least partially ... Read More
