    On another note, the Element has the K24 engine, the same as a 2001+ CRV as my 1999 has a B20Z engine, 2 litre instead of 2.4 for the element.     I have had good experience with Futura tires from PepBoys. The really cheap ones (4 for $99) are probably questionable, but the mid-line tires are made by Cooper and seem to have very good traction and road noise. I think mine ended up costing me $250 for all 4 installed with lifetime rotation and road hazard warranty after the $50 rebate.

    Yeah, that's right. It was 1998. I understand Honda's market research told them there wouldn't be enough demand for a 5 speed to bother making any. They did get enough people wanting these to make the change the next year. No 5 speed SE's and the 2WD models are only available in LX automatics. It's been a long time since I sold one.

    The insurance company claims that the owner's manual says that a rear hitch is not allowed to be installed therefore we could not make a claim for them to fix this. They have their information wrong (they're lieing!). Honda sells an accessory trailer hitch for the 1st Gen CR-V, so the Owners Manual would not include information saying that trailer hitches weren't allowed. Good luck.
