2013 Honda Civic Coupe EX 2dr Coupe (1.8L 4cyl 5A)

Review

I have now owned my 2013 Civic EX sedan for about a year. I initially had issues with seat comfort due to the aggressively tilted headrest but have fixed that by modifying it somewhat. I must say the car has performed flawlessly for the year I have owned it. It delivers a quiet, solid-feeling drive each day to work. Honda knows how to build a solid, easy to drive car unlike any other manufacturer. The "connected" feel of the driving experience is something only Honda really does well in this price range.

Favorite Features

Solid build quality, comfortable ride, sharp handling characteristics, easy to use technology features, decent overall MPG (could be better around town) and the "Honda feel" that this brand is so well known for.

Suggested Improvements

Despite being entirely adequate for everyday driving, the Civic needs an engine upgrade. The fact that the new ILX for 2016, which is loosely based on the Civic, now has a new "Earth Dreams" engine, the hope is Honda will soon design a similarly upgraded engine and power train for the Civic. The current engine is smooth (this power train is time-tested and proven) and provides enough power for normal driving and passing - with some cajoling, but it definitely feels strained at times - particularly when the A/C is on...and living in Florida, the A/C is on most of the time! We'll see what 2016 holds for the Civic - hopefully a nice engine upgrade!

2013 Honda Civic Coupe EX 2dr Coupe (1.8L 4cyl 5A)

Review

I bought this car new in May of 2013. I now have 10k trouble free miles on it, only requiring two oil changes. The car starts, drives, and runs flawlessly. Gas mileage around town in the winter is not great, but highway mileage is excellent. Maneuvering and parking in NYC is a breeze in this car. Interior is comfortable, and instruments are well laid out. The stock tires are fine for spring/summer/fall driving, but leave much to be desired for winter driving in snow and ice. get a second set of wheels with dedicated winter tires and you will be fine. This has been/is a great car. It is comfortable, economical, and adequately powerful. I consider it a good buy.

Favorite Features

Comfortable interior, economical to run, very reliable.

Suggested Improvements

Get rid of the economy mode. It appears to be a marketing gimmick as the car can't get out of it's own way when engaged.

2013 Honda Civic Coupe LX 2dr Coupe (1.8L 4cyl 5A)

Review

Great vehicle for a commuter car that is also fun to drive. It has decent styling and boring reliability. Has needed nothing for the year I have owned it so far, besides oil changes, and tire rotations every 5000 miles. I should have purchased a domestic car so I could learn how to fix them.

Favorite Features

Gas milage and decent handing for an economy car. Very nice styling exterior and interior. Well placed buttons, and switches, and very ergonomic seating.

Suggested Improvements

Alloy wheels standard would be nice, or at least 5 spoke steel wheels instead of the ugly dull black with perforated holes.

2013 Honda Civic Coupe LX 2dr Coupe (1.8L 4cyl 5A)

Review

I bought this Honda for one reason and one reason only: reliability. So In one year I have manged to clock 28,000 miles and have done nothing to the car outside of normal maintenance, which is great. I have been able to achieve 50 mpg with careful, skilled driving on a one off, fluke of a drive. I can routinely obtain 42 mpg with respectable driving and 33-35 mpg with a heavy foot. The brakes are not the best as I have locked them up a few times without noticing the ABS pulse from the pedal. Also, there is a blind spot from the roof pillar between the windshield and left door that is very annoying on mountain roads. Altogether, a good car and I'm happy I bought it.

Favorite Features

Fuel mileage, interior comfort, interior space.

Suggested Improvements

Blind spot during slight left turns caused by roof pillar between windshield and left door. It's really noticeable on windy mountain roads; whole cars can disappear in this blind spot.

2013 Honda Civic Coupe EX 2dr Coupe (1.8L 4cyl 5A)

Review

i had a '03 civic ex with 131k miles and for 10 yrs, it was nearly perfect. in its 11th year it was showing its age just a little. i think i got spoiled at not having to put money into it, outside of regular maintenance. anyway, i figured almost 11 yrs was a pretty good run and honda had 0.9% for *60* months, which is rare for honda. also, the 2013 got really good reviews as a bounce back from a semi-disappointing 2012 model. the comfort of the seats (tho i've read some complaints) and the road noise is MUCH improved from my '03 model, aswell, imo. the technology made a big jump, too. i hope the reliability continues. my former civic was the best car i've owned, BY FAR.

Favorite Features

the technology advances (bluetooth, ipod sync, mpg/oil/tire inflation monitoring, etc), improved road noise/soundproofing and seat comfort, the rear camera, moonroof, wiper blades (up and out, not side to side), value/reliability, econ button (except when you need quick acceleration). i probably won't need an oil change til 9k miles! the oil life goes down about 10% every 1k miles and they tell you get it changed around 15% oil life left. impressive!

Suggested Improvements

push button start (which the 2014 has), better acceleration with the econ button- when you need decent pick up, like merging onto a highway or busy street, i need to disengage the econ button because it's too much of a dog with it on. the trunk could be a tad bigger. the side mirrors on my '03 were more connected to the car, which i prefer. initially, i was a little disappointed in the MPG. we had a brutal chicago winter & i was only getting about 28 mpg combined. since the weather has warmed (and maybe the engine has broken in a bit), i'm averaging 32+ mpg, which is more acceptable. i haven't had any long road trips to get a good measure of highway mpg. my '03 got 39+ shortly before in.
