Disappointed to hear CR wrote a poor review.
I had an 06 same model, sold to grandson, bought 2012.
Not a lot of difference.
The dash display encourages thrifty driving; ECON setting really works.
Good handling, etc., but perhaps it just "stayed the same" in many respects while competition improved.
Get 40+ on highway, 30 in city.
Seems quiet enough.
Have to program door locks, sort of annoying the way they work.
Hard to program radio.
Recommend the car.
Seems a bit roomier for the driver, seatls are better than '06.
Handling in tight spots, fuel economy, styling.
Need reasonable dealer add-ons, body side molding is expensive.
Don't feel too bad about CR's review, the Civic EX came in 2nd in MT's direct comparo (and got the best gas mileage of the gas-powered models) and C&D also rated it 2nd. Interestingly, MT rated the Elantra as #1 (3rd in C&D's test), while C&D rated the Focus #1 (MT rated it 5th of 8). Sometimes coming in 2nd isn't so bad as both tests indicated that the Civic handled better and was roomier than the Elantra (with almost 4 more mpg according to MT), but less sporty than the Focus (but with a smoother tranny, more room and better mileage).
CR's review is flat wrong.. they need to re-review maybe the car they had tested has some defects, I just bought one today I hear ya bout the add-ons, dealer adds them off the truck, no standard ones on the lot.
I was able to talk them down, not as much I would like it to have gone down about 1K off MSRP, I should have pushed for more, but oh well.
