I live next door to a honda dealer mechanic and he told me that he's only seen a few IMA batteries fail after large milage but our 2009 civic's IMA battery failed after 3 years / 32k miles. Hi, I need some advice, and this seems like the best place to ask. I'm going to be helping a relative with her negotiations on a new lease. Her current lease expires in April for a 2009 Honda Civic Hybrid. The complication is that there's some damage to the car that I'm almost certain will go beyond the normal "wear and tear." Specifically, there's a small amount of damage on the ... Read More

2003-2005 Civics are a different car than 2006-2009 Civics. The "update" that the 2006-2009 owners are having trouble with is not the same as the maintenance update they put in your car. The latest update for the 2003-2005 Civics concentrates on keeping the battery half full. Gas mileage is affected slightly if you tend to drive fast or lots of local driving or lots of acceleration (if your battery isn't normally ... Read More

Honda messed up a little by not studying the competition well enough. The Civic is still a very good car. I must say I've had an 84 Accord, 86 Accord, 88 Accord, 91 Integra, 95 Integra, 96 Civic, 97 Accord, 2000 Acura EL, 2001 Accord, 2002 Civic, 2005 CRV, 2008, Civic, 2008 CRV, 2009 Honda Lawnmower, 2009 Honda Snowblower. All these driven by my wife and me and knock on wood, not one lemon and nothing but pleasure to own and operate. By the complaints listed on this forum, I must ... Read More
I have a 2009 Civic Hybrid. I will have owned it one year in April. In November the IMA light went on and I took it to the dealer who said it needed a computer upgrade. It just went on again - after a month of cold and very snowy temperatures. Now I need a new battery. Not sure where the error code is seen - I didn't ask the dealer ... Read More
I would love to know the answer to this as well. I have a 2009 Civic LX 4-dr sedan, and I get terrible mileage too. Around 32 highway is so-so, but my combined city/hwy mpg (most of my driving involves 50/50 city/hwy) barely hits 24 mpg. I realize it's a more powerful engine and won't get the great mileage of my previous underpowered Hondas -- I used to get 40 higway! ... Read More
I bought my Civic 2010 LX-S for 19,300 OTD (with Honda financing) on December 1, 2009. I checked several auto sites like Edmunds.com, truecar.com for the price and this one was the best offer. This is in FW/Dallas area. I was also considering VW Jetta SE 2010 but the two sale managers that were dealing with me and a finance manager of Volkswagen of Lewisville (Lewisville, TX) were acting the same ... Read More
I agree with Jeb. I had my 2009 civic battery replaced and now I'm getting about 10 miles per gallon less than I was getting when I first bought the car. As I stated before, I am amazed that this problem with these vehicles has been kept relatively quiet. Honda continues to sell these vehicles as fast as they can get them on the lot.
You are very fortunate to get 40 plus mpg in city, stop and go traffic. Thank you for your input, as you sound like an average driver. My 2009 gets around 42mpg on long trips, interstate driving, going around 70 mph, the speed limit in California, on Freeway/Interstate driving. This is with AC on, another occupant, and luggage in the trunk. There are so many variables, it is really hard to ... Read More
Thought I bump this up a bit. After reading some of these posts, I guess I should be happy with the MPG I get on my 2009 HCH. I have just over 6000 miles and over that time period I averaged 42.8 MPG. 90% of my driving is local, 10 miles or less trip. I have the Trip B set for when I bought the car to get the "lifetime" avg ... Read More
Did I get a lemon? I bought a 2009 honda civic 4 door sedan in July 2009. The best mpg I've gotten is 34. In town I get 22 mpg and on the highway it's usually 28mpg. My 1995 honda civic did much better. What type of gas mileage are others getting? Is there anything that could be adjusted to improve the gas mileage?
Comment on the dealer's "10,000 mile checkup". With Honda's MM system now, such arbitrary "x-mile" checkups no longer exist. If you are being offered one, it is a dealer-created package of services related to what cars perhaps at one point used to need, but have no relationship to the maintenance demands of current Hondas. To put it bluntly, it is a ripoff preying on those who want to be conscientious about ... Read More
Please advise if there are any recalls. I have a 2009 Honda Civic with 11,000 miles it. The IMA light went on this week. I brought it in and it shows a battery module deterioration. The updated the IMA battery and PGM-FI Update and told me this was a softwear issue, and that I was all set. Can I expect further problems? I asked if this was a recall issue and ... Read More
It seems cheaper to lease a 2010 Civic LX than an 2009 Civic LX according to Honda's Financial Services website lease calculator.
You did well....congrats and enjoy your new Honda!
Hi, I've learned so much from this forum that I wanted to give a little knowledge back... I just purchased a 2009 Civic 4Dr LX Automatic from a dealer in Syracuse, NY. It was a new car (2 miles on the odometer). My pricing was as follows: MSRP $18,965 Honda discount on 2009s - $750 Negotiated discount - $2,015 Net Price $16,200 Application processing fee + $75 NYS Sales Tax + ... Read More

Hi vagabondchef. I haven't worked up payments on both, but I suspect that the fact that Honda has pulled the plug on its special lease program for the 2009 Civic will make it more expensive to lease than a 2010 model, even with the $750 dealer cash that is available on leftovers.
