honda is a lemon -help
I have a 2003 Honda Civic and apparently it's a lemon. At 39,000 miles I had to replace motor mounts, and now, at 42,000 miles, I've just had to replace a "throttle body positioner" -for 530 bucks! I have friends who have civics with 200,000 miles on them who haven't had to replace these pieces. Of course, I'm not in warranty anymore. But my car keeps breaking. I am ... Read More...
Civic Hybrid Catalytic Converter Failures
Re: Civic Hybrid Catalytic Converter Failures [ldemat]
I've had three -- count 'em, three -- catalytic converters replaced on my 2003 Honda Civic Hybrid. Last time, they blamed a software problem. The Check Engine light has just blinked on at 98,500 miles, so I'll be interested to see if my dealer does the right thing and replaces it for free. Read More...
Re: Civic Hybrid Catalytic Converter Failures [kchybrid]
Very interested in your assessment for 2003 Honda civic hybrid. ECM update performed at 38,674 miles (Oct 2005) ("to prevent catalyst DTC P0420 and VPS P1021," and MCM update to prevent IMA battery, under Honda Recall notice). Converter failure (code P1420-nox adsorptive cat system efficiency below threshold) somewhere between 79850 and 80105 miles (Mar ... Read More...
Re: Civic Hybrid Catalytic Converter Failures [kchybrid]
My light was on with a p0420 as tested in January of 2008 by the local Honda dealership in Austin, Texas. They quoted me what would have been $3000.00 with tax to replace the catalytic converters. My ecm had been updated at about 100K miles, with the cats being replaced at about 86K miles as a result of an earlier episode of the same. I then took the 2003 Hybrid to a respected ... Read More...
Honda Civic Transmission Questions
Re: Honda civic 2003 Lx Coupe Transmission Problem [iwara96]
Just so I'm clear. When you first start the car and engine and transmission are cold, the tranny engages and acclerates normally. But once you've driven for awhile and everything is warmed up, it slips (that is, if you press the accelerator, the engine rpm's go up, but the car itself does not accelerate forward). Is that correct? If so, I'm sorry to say I agree with ... Read More...
Civic Hybrid Catalytic Converter Failures
Re: Civic Hybrid Catalytic Converter Failures [balaguru]
I also live in NJ and have a 2003 Civic Hybrid with 98K miles. Around 90K miles the check engine light stayed on. After getting the software update it came on again twice and stayed on each time. I brought it back in and was told that the catalytic converter needed to be replaced for $1100. I asked the dealer to re-check this as the notice for the update said that this ... Read More...

motor mounts
I have a honda civic hybrid 2003. It was making a strange sound when driving off from a standing still. I found out the noise was a bad motor mount. (the upper) I wanted to buy the part myself and install it. The dealer ship was the only place that sold it and they insisted they install it. Ok fine. they have the car and said I will get it back late in the evening. I was first ... Read More...
Honda Civic Basic Maintenance Questions
2007 Civic Sedan
At last, Honda has made it a lot easier to change the oil filter. I know with my 2003 Civic, to reset the maintenance minder you had to press and hold the trip-odometer button for 10 seconds while turning the key to on. The 2007 Civic minder has to be reset by a qualified Honda Technician. Has anybody cracked the case and found out how to do this yourself?? Read More...

2006 CVT Fluid Change
Hi Folks, My Hybrid says its time for a transmission fluid change. I called the Local Honda dealer for their price $89.95, which includes just draining out the old and putting in 3 new quarts of CVT Fluid. Or I could Buy 3 qts from Them at $15.95 Per QT! With my Car Buyer Discount ( 10% off List Price). I also asked about some Honda Antifreeze as I have a Odyssey that I maintain ... Read More...
