2002 Honda Civic LX 2dr Coupe (1.7L 4cyl 5M)
Review
Purchased new with 6 miles on it and drove it for 5 years (80,000) miles. Reliability and Honda service was terrible. At 35,400 miles, third gear synchro went out on manual transmission. I have been driving manuals for 25 years and I have a CDL and I never burned out a clutch or damaged a tranny. Fixed under warranty but never shifted right again (grinded and clunked when going into gear) and shifter was VERY stiff and VERY difficult to down shift. Took back 4 times and dealer said it was fine!? Called Honda Corporate and wrote letters, no help at all. All 4 struts went out at 40,000 miles too ($1300). Road noise terrible, factory tires rated worst on tirerack and hydroplaned very badly.
Favorite Features
Gas Mileage. I averaged around 37 in mixed driving! 40.5 on highway, 35 in town. Also, the trunk is huge and with fold-down seats, you can haul almost as much as an SUV.
Suggested Improvements
Replace flimsy brass synchros in manual transmission with stronger material. Redesign struts - these should not fail at 40,000. Extend Warranty to 60,000 (hey Honda, put your money where your mouth is). Most American car manufacturers are offering 60,000 and 100,000 mile warranties now.

2002 Honda Civic Si 2dr Hatchback (2.0L 4cyl 5M)
Review
I have had this car 8 months now. I commute about 100 miles a day & this thing cannot be beat. Fast, fun sporty. I still average 32 mpg, important especially now with gas at $4 a gallon. I have put 16K on in 10 months. I expect it to last me to 250K miles, as long as you perform proper maintenance. I have done a few small upgrades & am seeing even better mpg sometimes, no need to buy a new Honda. But will buy another again. Thanks Honda for doing what you do best, building some of the best cars in the world.
Favorite Features
Rally style shifter, back to its roots with the hatchback. MPG, performance gearing, seats. Limited numbers, rarely seen, people always ask what it is.
Suggested Improvements
Like everyone else the K20A Type R would be more fun, but you would sacrifice mileage.

Honda 2002 GX (CNG) a sweetie.

This is a sweet little car to drive and very economical at the current price of gasoline. I have a used home pump which fills the tank overnight. My price per gallon equivalent at home is about $1.53 per gallon equivalent. Because the fuel is so clean, oil changes at 10,000 mile intervals could probably be delayed further. I have had essentially no major problems with the car. It has saved me a really large amount of money--especially now that gasoline is going for $4.72.
Favorite Features
People are very curious about the fuel, fuel economy, and how big a problem it is to find fuel.
Suggested Improvements
Put a little more meat into the sheet metal. Small traumas produce unnecessary dents.

I did only 15,000 miles on it, but I know the car since it was 1 year old. That 1.7 liter engine was almost all the time pushed to the redline. The car was tuned a little bit, but it was almost like glued to the road when cornering. 0-60 is about 8.5\9 sec. I owned a manual transmission and I had to rebuild it (with 90k miles on it) but only because of track use and power shifting ($1000). Around 90k miles I had to change all front bushings ($450) and shocks ($300) everything else works perfectly. I have experienced an accident on highway going about 60mph and I can tell you that the car is very safe. It just started to burn about a half quarter of oil for every oil change. Mobil 1 5W-20
Favorite Features
manual tranny, really good suspension, almost like glued to the road (even before I lowered it)

More hp ;)

2002 Honda Civic LX 4dr Sedan (1.7L 4cyl 5M)
Review
I love this car. I didn't even do maintenance for 2 years because I didn't know what to do! Now I get regular filter changes/tires/oil/and it needed some transmission fluid when I noticed it made a weird squeaking noise. Read the user manual would be my advice, to avoid costly mechanical charges. DO change air filters a lot (every 3 oil changes), it improves the fuel economy. I only had to change the battery one time, and I've had to jump start it many (when it was the old battery) because I kept leaving the lights on. The factory battery lasted 5 years which is really quite something!.
Favorite Features
The cruise control. Saves a lot of money on gas. I love the way it can turn so nice and tight around narrow streets when I do a u-turn!
Suggested Improvements
It isn't very cozy on long trips. My rear end falls asleep and my legs get stiff and icky. Also the cabin is noisy.

2002 Honda Civic LX 4dr Sedan (1.7L 4cyl 5M)
Review
This is a great car. It rides smooth and I haven't had any large repair bills to date. I've had this car 4 years and all I've had to replace is the tires and regular oil changes. I'm very happy with the gas mileage. I have had many compliments on this car from friends to mechanics. This is a great road trip car. I've taken it to a bunch of different States and even out of the Country.
Favorite Features
I like the Power locks and the cruise control. The radio works fantastic. The interior cleans easily. I always have a smooth ride

This car is quite practical, but has had a decent number of repairs. It gets good fuel economy (upper 20's) and is a sound car. However, if you are looking for a quick car, you've come to the wrong place.

Fuel economy, reliability

Overall, it's OK. However, after 100k miles, the transmission broke down. Without any warning. I don't know why. Price of parts are too expensive.
Favorite Features
The engine is reliable.
Suggested Improvements
Too much noise in the cabin.

5 year old Honda review
Vehicle
2002 Honda Civic LX 4dr Sedan (1.7L 4cyl 5M)
Review
My car is 5 years old. It has 24K miles on it and makes a weird squeaking noise when I drive it slowly. Lately it has not been starting on the first try. I took it to the dealer and they could not determine what the cause was. I am now just waiting for the 2008 Nissans or Camrys to come out. My dealership now wants to charge a $99 diagnostic fee. Whether they find the problem or not. The fact that there seems to be an electrical short that might make me stranded somewhere really bothers me. I'm very disappointed in Honda quality and the dealership.

2002 Honda Civic Si 2dr Hatchback (2.0L 4cyl 5M)
Review
So far I have had 3 Si's. A 1992, 1993 and 2002. I love the feel and styling of the '02 hatch Si. Great car as usual. Thanks Honda for doing what American car manufaturers have failed to do.
Favorite Features
It's got to be the shifter. Unique and very user friendly.
Suggested Improvements
The radio was a little below my expectations. Could use a sound upgrade in the future.
