2002 Honda Civic EX 4dr Sedan w/Side Airbags (1.7L 4cyl 5M)
The Honda Civic is one of the best expressions of the economy sedan. The basic concept of offering as much room as possible to the passengers, while also providing fuel economy and nimbleness is well served by the Honda Civic.
The best feature is the overall nimbleness of the vehicle and the flexibility of the engine.
This car is great fun to drive.
It feels light and responsive, so drivers don't feel intimidated or disconnected, rather they feel in control and involved.
The engine compartment is cramped and this leaves very little room for the home mechanic or frugal owner to affect many repairs.
The replacement parts from the dealer are also very expensive (e.g. a replacement Honda alternator is >$500 at the dealer). The vehicle also is made of thin body panels which results in many dents and dings. Unfortunately making these panels more robust would sacrifice the great nimbleness of the vehicle.
One improvement that may have been addressed in later models is the noise and vibration abatement.
The 2002 model year does suffer from much "buzz" in the passenger compartment which can be tiring after an hour in the driver's seat.
