2002 Honda Civic Sedan EX 4dr Sedan (1.7L 4cyl 5M)

Review

FIT AND FINISH IS TOP NOTCH, BUT
QUALITY OF MATERIALS AND CONSTRUCTION
IS POOR. MANY THINGS HAVE FAILED ON
THE VEHICLE WITHIN THE FIRST 24K.
DEALERS WOULD NOT REPAIR AND IT TOOK A
LAWSUIT TO GET HONDA TO FIX A ROCKING
SEAT THAT HAD BEEN REPAIRED 3 TIMES
PRIOR, A DEFECTIVE STEERING RACK AND
FRONT STRUTS. ADDITIONALLY, THE CLOTH
CAME OFF ALL 4 DOOR PANELS, THE TRUNK
LOCK BROKE, THE AC DOES NOT WORK WELL,
THE COMPUTER NEEDED REPROGRAMMING DUE
TO EPA FAILURE, THE RADIO CHANGES
STATIONS WHEN YOU OPEN THE SUN ROOF,
THE CARPET CAME OUT OF THE FLOOR MATS
AND THE LIST GOES ON.

Best Features

GAS MILEAGE IS GREAT.

Worst Features

BUY SOMETHING OTHER THAN A HONDA IF YOU WANT A RELIABLE VEHICLE.

2002 Honda Civic Sedan LX 4dr Sedan (1.7L 4cyl 5M)

Review

Great gas mileage (40 mpg highway) and
fairly decent drivability are the only
good thing about this car. Had nothing
but problems. Was in shop 5 times after
only 4 months driving. Had to replace
front and rear shocks, remove dash and
insert foam to eliminate extensive
rattling (still rattles). The whole
bloody car rattles. Gear shifter pops
out of gear, brakes make horrible
metallic pop when first used, clutch and
brake pedal squeak like rusty door
hinges, etc, etc. Serious quality
control issues.

Best Features

Great gas mileage.

Worst Features

Focus on final quality. It makes no sense to make such a good engine and put it into a cheap plastic rattle trap. I had an '86 Honda that had fewer problems when it was 12 years old.

Review

Well, I posted a review back in May of
2002. To update, the car STILL has not
had any problems. Yes, the road noise
is still there, and the rattles and
creaks are there. But reliabilty and
gas milleage has been very good. On all
highway, I have gotten anywhere from 39-
41MPG. But back in the city, it's been
hovering around 33MPG. Over this time,
I have gone on numerous trips, and
drive everywhere and I still enjoy
driving it!

Best Features

Gas milleage, trunk space, back seat space, transmission (5 speed), direct ignition system, handles ok, 43MPG (once), easy to read dash.

Worst Features

The shocks/struts dont match very well with those springs, the car actually lifts on high speed corners when hitting a bump. Need better tires. Brake feel needs improvement, rear disk brakes would be nice! Still needs more power.........

Review

The front struts on this car went out
with in 5000 miles. Dealer advise--
"you will be paying for them soon
enough your self"
A/C system not adequate on a hot day.
FM/AM have different sound levels.
Oil filter hard to get to.
AT transmission down shifts too fast
when cruse control is on.
Sun roof rattles.
Paint job is flakey and weak.
Sheet metal dents if you look at it
sideways.

Best Features

I do not have car payments or I would defalt on them

Worst Features

Honda is a car company that is all talk and very little on the delivery end. But a Toyota and have a reliable toy. This will be my last Honda

2002 Honda Civic Sedan LX 4dr Sedan (1.7L 4cyl 5M)

Review

It’s a good car, but more like Ford
than Honda. Picked it over
Elantra for reliability and crash test
data, Elantra more comfy & powerful,
better stereo, & $3-4K less.
Handling sucks (drive a new Corolla).
Window regulators shouldn’t break from
normal use. Paint chipped after 100
miles! Only gets 25MPG! Headlights dim
when driving. Trunk dumps water inside
when opened (from lights on trunk).
Gas & brake petals too close, knee
hits steering wheel. Right foot needs
more room (have big feet, bigger
shoes). Headrest makes better door
than window, blocks rear view. Sun
visor clip too tight. Driver door
creaks. Ridiculous oil change
procedure.

Best Features

Looks Great inside & out. Comfy seats. Like the chrome door handles & silver guages. AC works well. Flat rear floor is great for backseat passengers' feet. Good quality materials. Controls work very well.

Worst Features

Assemble it right the first time. Doors should automatically unlock when pull on door handle. Allow power window operation in the ACC key position. The sunvisor clip is too tight. Needs more power! Hesitates from stop. I don't want to buy a car lift to change the damn oil!
