Re: 2001 Civic mpg [targettuning]
The reason the mileage changes so drastic is because that tinny 1.8 engine in city driving is constantly shifting. If you go up any hill the engine revs up to 3K or above. On the highway the rpms are pretty constant and below 3K with speeds up to 70 mph. If Honda put a bigger engine "like a 2.2 or 2.4 liter" it would have more torque and more power and would rev lower = about ... Read More...
Re: 2001 Civic mpg [ruking1]
The power curve is not because it's a Honda. It's because it is a SOHC engine. How much horsepower or torque do you think it takes to cruise at 68 mph? Read More...
Re: 2001 Civic mpg [blufz1]
Well in power curve terms, there is. Some to most folks know this, but the Honda is known as one of the "high rev, low torque" variety. As such, it does not "pay" to do a low rev and expect a high torque value, as compared to the Jetta TDI, where high torque comes on at a relatively low rev. Read More...
Re: 2001 Civic mpg [jodar96]
I would say good for you !! Obviously in terms of the affect on the machinery (gentle) and the effect on the mpg metric, those conditions are in the so called "sweet spot" for the 2001 Civic. Of course, there are those following this thread who would think you another non-credible "SHRILL" for Honda, passing hot air, or some other waste byproduct :( Read More...
My take on 2001 Honda Civic LX
Just drove my sister's Civic back from Arizona to Indiana on a 1900 plus mile trip to sell it up here. It is four door and 5 speed. I have driven her car before but not to this extent. She went from 1993 Tarcel to 2001 Civic to 2005 RX330. Fit, finish, and feel are excellent for a small car. The interior colors, fabric, and contrast in colors are tastefully done. The feel ... My Mileage...and $.02
Remind me not to hit enter until I'm through...Anyway, 2006 Civic Ex AT, just over 22K miles. I've gotten from 30 to 39 on my commute that is about 26 miles each way, Suburban cruising with heavy traffic on both ends, never above 45mph and lots of redlights. It takes me almost an hour. The new Civic AT gets it's mileage on the taller final gearing, so if you don't ever ... Read More...
Civic GX in Colorado? What would I be in for?
Re: Civic GX in Colorado? What would I be in for? [randyl712]
I have a 2001 Honda Gx in Colorado Springs. There are two stations in Colorado Springs, one in Castle Rock, several in Denver and two in Boulder. The one in COS (near Platte & Circle) has gone down a couple of times and I had to use one on the Fort Carson Army Base. Since I go by the station four times a week it is not a hassle for me. It is nice paying so little for gas. Read More...
Honda Quality????
Like many on this forum, I believe Honda quality is slipping compared to what it used to be. I still feel they make the best engines in the world for mass produced cars but many of their other components are failing at an alarming rate. I have owned many Hondas over the years and can attest to this fact. Here's my list of cars and major problems (not incl. wear and tear ... Read More...
well despite EVERYTHING!
wow i remember when we were still talking about how these cars in the sense of how they handled, fuel ecomomy, interior design, colors, etc. But it seems no comparison on carspace would be complete without the reliabilty/quality/jdpowers/consumer reports war! The fact of the matter is that people will always base how they feel about thier cars from their past ... Read More...
Next car after Audi S4
I drive a 2001 Audi S4 sedan which I purchased in 2004. Its been an absolute joy to drive and own, esp considering that I upgraded from a Honda Civic! I wasn't aiming for a high performance car and was looking at the A4, but got a really sweet deal. My concern now is with rising maintainence costs as well as the possibility of turbo's going bad, which are notoriously ... Read More...
