Problems! And More Problems!
Vehicle
2001 Honda Civic DX 2dr Coupe (1.7L 4cyl 5M)
Review
I bought this car with only 70k and it's the worst Honda ever made. Don't get me wrong, I love Hondas and I've had two previous little civics that have lasted me well over 200k. But wow I never thought that Honda would fail me, till now. Had to fix transmission at 75k! I have older Hondas with more miles and with the original tranny! Had to change the muffler cuz it rattles really bad every time u go over a water puddle. Lots of road noise and rattles. Changed both bearings. AC is weak! Overall only thing worth is the style of the car, but that really fooled me. Terrible car, and this is coming from somebody with a civic forum acct as well. Be careful. Worst Honda ever! Do the research, trust me!

2001 Honda Civic LX 4dr Sedan (1.7L 4cyl 5M)
Review
My wife bought this car new back in 2001, it now has 136K miles, never any repairs just regular service like, spark plugs, timing belt, trans service, brake pads and regular oil change every 3-4K miles, great car for the money. Great gas mileage. It still fills like the fist day.
Favorite Features
This car is a money saver, remember it is not a Mercedes or BMW, so don't expect luxury.
Suggested Improvements
None, I love Honda, keep doing what are you doing.

Love this car
Vehicle
2001 Honda Civic LX 4dr Sedan (1.7L 4cyl 5M)
Review
Been driving this car for 155000 miles.... not a single repair; only scheduled maintenance. Absolute performance isn't great, but if you factor in the gas mileage and engine displacement, it's quite good and all I really need for around the town driving. Interior is holding up extremely well for its age. All the trim pieces are as tight as the day I bought it and the soft touch material on the dash exudes quality. The ride is very smooth though the wind and engine noise can be slightly obtrusive at high rpm and speed. Lots of rear leg room and large trunk. This car has aged like fine wine whereas my old Saturn SL1 aged like stale beer.
Favorite Features
Gas mileage (34MPG with a lead foot), ride comfort, engine and transmission refinement, interior and overall build quality, roomy for its size.
Suggested Improvements
Performance, engine and wind noise, would prefer slightly more substantial steering feel.

Good overall car
Vehicle
2001 Honda Civic LX 2dr Coupe (1.7L 4cyl 5M)
Review
This car has been quite reliable, never stranding me anywhere. It is somewhat sedate, but that has kept me from getting any tickets in it. This is a benefit in the cost of ownership, which had been very reasonable. I got 96,000 km out of the original tires, the brakes last forever, and oil changes are cheap (compared to my diesel f250). It has had a few minor issues, but I will cover that in the suggested improvements.
Favorite Features
Economy has been pretty good, with a combined mileage, but mostly city, of about 33mpg. Cost of ownership is low.
Suggested Improvements
The transmission does not like to kick down to first once it is already rolling. It tries, but hesitates, and seems to have trouble between gears. Had to replace the shocks way earlier than I should have. I have gone years without changing the CD, but it is now not ejecting properly...

Beware of Transmission Problems
Vehicle
2001 Honda Civic LX 4dr Sedan (1.7L 4cyl 5M)
Review
Transmission had to be replaced at 63,000 miles. Do your research online and you'll see that the 2001 Civic (and the V6 Accord) have the transmissions go bad frequently well under 100,000 miles. Additionally the SRS light may go off due to faulty seatbelts (mine did). Lastly, as is often the case for Honda, the brakes need to be replaced a bit more frequently than other car manufacturers. This is all coming from a die-hard Honda fan with multiple Civics. Go ahead and get a Honda, just don't get a 2001 Civic (2002 wasn't much better).
Favorite Features
Gas economy.
Suggested Improvements
Should have put a tranny cooler in this thing. It's also not much fun to drive.

Extremely Reliable
Vehicle
2001 Honda Civic EX 4dr Sedan (1.7L 4cyl 5M)
Review
This vehicle has been great! Other than regular maintenance I have just had the struts replaced. I bought this car new in 2000 and Its still running strong it has over 130000 miles now. I get great gas mileage and the car has adequate power. The steering and brake pedal are too soft. The fuel Economy and the sunroof are nice. I wish the sound system was better, even on the top of the line ex the stereo only has 4 speakers. I highly recommend this vehicle!
Favorite Features
Sunroof, great gas mileage, exterior Design.
Suggested Improvements
Softer seats, tighter steering and better sounding stereo. A V-6 option would be nice.

2001 Honda Civic LX Automatic Sedan
Vehicle
2001 Honda Civic LX 4dr Sedan (1.7L 4cyl 5M)
Review
The Civic is overall a good car, but the 2001-2005 Civic wasn't a really a good Civic. This version was a little too boring and the 4 speed automatic in our car makes it irritatingly slow and the reliability wasn't as good as expected. It hasn't been mechanical problems, but problems with quality. The plastics felt flimsy all along and the seats got worn out and small tears. Another issue is the shocks, which wear out and make the front end bounce under braking and acceleration. The brakes aren't good either, they take a long time to stop the car and the LX doesn't have ABS. These Civics are dependable economy cars, but the 2001-2005 versions don't impress in enough other ways.
Favorite Features
Gas mileage, small dimensions, strongish engine, and good rear seat space.
Suggested Improvements
It needs a better transmission, safety is a problem, really needs ABS, and just isn't interesting.

Honda's reputation comes through
Vehicle
2001 Honda Civic EX 2dr Coupe (1.7L 4cyl 5M)
Review
Good reliable car. With regular maintenance and responsible ownership, I've never had any major problems. Great gas mileage! Seems to be built well, and is easy to fix and modify if necessary, both internally and externally. I hope to continue driving this car for years to come.
Favorite Features
Great gas mileage. Very reliable. Easy and relatively cheap to fix. With standard, responsible maintenance, has and should continue to run for a long time! Fairly comfortable, and somewhat fun to drive.
Suggested Improvements
Would be nice to have rear disc brakes and a little more power, but the newer models have those features already.

Suspension is crap
Vehicle
2001 Honda Civic EX 2dr Coupe (1.7L 4cyl 5M)
Review
Bought brand new, careful maintenance, still issues. 20,000 miles - both front struts replaced under warranty. 90,000 miles - all 4 struts replaced, $900 cost. 100,000 miles - catalytic converter, 2 oxygen sensors, front control arm bushings replaced - $1500 cost. SRS light went off due to faulty drivers' side seat belt buckle, dealer replaced under lifetime warranty of safety equipment. 120,000 miles - rattling started and at 40+ miles/hour sounds like I'm flying a plane. Many suggested here that wheel barrings are out. Never left me stranded, but starting to require more than preventative maintenance.
