Shame you didn't get the oil problem fixed cause you would be good to keep the car going indefinitely. I have a 97 Civic with 87,000 miles on it and plan to keep forever. Also have a 02 besides regular maintenance, tires, brakes replaced once and a battery replacing both sets of struts this year was the first major repair. Car looks like and runs like new. Factor in the facts that the newest generation Civics are...larger, heavier, more powerful, safer, need to conform to much more strict emission standards, more comfortable and still can get over 40mpg highway (ours gets as much as 42 to 43 mpg on interstate drives per ScanGage) no one should "long" for the good old (1994 etc) Civics for any reason. BUY THIS CAR !! Really, do not let this car go. It is one of the very solid, well balanced civics ever made that requires almost minimal maintenance. I have a 1994 Honda Civic LX 4dr sedan. It has over 228,000 miles on it. But I have to tell you. Over the life of the car I was religious about following the maintenance schedule recommended by Honda. And I had oil changes done 3-4 times a year. The engine is still good. The body is good. I have Honda Civic, LX, model 2009 Gas millage of this car is overall a DISASTER: 260 miles so far, 20.8 MPG, city ride mostly. I was not pushing the gas pedal to hard, neither was accelerating to fast, never went over 2300 RPM. With my old Honda Civic 1994 I managed to get 32-35 MPG pure city drive and 41 MPG mostly highway. let me jump in here and tell you why.. Had a civic (96-2000 generation) that was sitting for about 8-10months. The bushings in the rear lower control arms dry rotted! Not a good thing to have that lock up and almost lost control of the car. You should suspect a blown head gasket, allowing your coolant to mix with cylinder gasses. Have a compression test done on all the cylinders, to see if one (or more) are reading low. If so, you'll need to have some upper engine head work done on it. Read More...
