  • Transmission Filter on 1993 Honda Civic LX

    Written by: newcarguy14 on Mar 15, 2012 11:44:43 AM

I have been searching for hours online to see if my 93' Honda Civic LX has a transmission filter that's actually serviceable, but I keep getting conflicting reports and I can't seem to find my specific model car anywhere. I really don't want to monkey with the transmission pan if I don't have to so I was hoping someone on here could help me out. My question is this: Does anyone ... Read More

Except that the CVT is expensive to fix and shouldn't need an extended warranty to make the car sell. A student's first car should be economical, cheap, impossible to kill, and fun. While I was talking about new cars, this brings me to my #1 personal choice, which is to get a classic car. It's cool, it's unique, it doesn't depreciate... The list goes on. Summary: Based on my experience and observations there should be no issues for at least 50k and with proper maintanence until 200k (or till car is 15). Then you will want to inventory the condition and possible corrosion issues. If you live in a cold climate washing the salt off the under body of the car during the winter is a good investment of time and money. Caveat: Obviously certain "unorthodox" ... Read More

Actually, it sounds more like a cracked head, where the crack is at the top of the combustion chamber in one of the cooling jackets. The pressure from the combustion chamber is getting into the cooling system, which is why you blew your radiator and then the hoses. It is also why you don't see coolant/oil contamination. Replacing the hoses with the radiator wouldn't have fixed the basic problem since they ... Read More

You probably blew a head gasket, which sits on top of the engine block/cylinders, and under the head that contains the valves. The gasket keeps cylinder gas in the cylinders and engine where it belongs, and coolant water in the cooling circuit for cooling. When the gasket blows, coolant gets into the engine and oil (very bad), and oil gets into the coolant system (which can be easily flushed/cleaned). For what ... Read More
