I love this car, love the way it can turn soo fast, I've rebuilt the frame for the rust had eaten away at it and gave it a cool paint job now it looks like new. It's only an automatic but it's my sweet heart.

Favorite Features

Slick turn, cool shape, opening little window on hood.

I got the car, for more Gas Mileage, and i love it, but i am a novice to the 5sp kind. I have learned quick, and am doing great! The car is like new, a rust spot on one side, and thats all. Car looks and drives like new!! This is the kind of car, for a person who is looking to get Great Gas Mileage and not have to fill up every time ya turn around. But i have found the room to be quite small, as i am a big guy, i like more room, None the less, the car is in great shape with 152xxx miles on it and still runs like it was just built this year! This car is okay, put the cup holder in a better place than on top of the dash.Buy a used 91 civic lx and you won't be mad you did!!!!!

Favorite Features

Every power feature: mirrors, windows, steering etc. Economic car.

Suggested Improvements

There is little Head room or room for me to get into it sometimes, the steering wheel could of been built higher, and the room could of been bigger. Also the cup holder should of been put someplace else besides the dash... Better inside lighting for when getting into and out of the car.

Review

I bought it from a friend of mine, who only used it for long trips on the east coast. It had no rust and under 100 thousand miles on it. A year later it has 150 thousand miles, and still runs strong. it's fun, sporty, can carry heavy loads and has never broken down on me. I had the oil changed at Walmart, they never put new oil in it. I ran it unwittingly for 2 months before I realized the problem, and it's never suffered or seized. My mother had a 1986 Honda Prelude, spun it, rolled it and still drove it home. that car died out at 300 thousand miles! they're easy to fix, parts are easy to find and they are exceptionally cheap to maintain. I've done most of the work on mine, myself.

Favorite Features

I like the contour of the car, and the fact that it's a hatchback but still small enough to get great gas mileage. It's comfortable to sit in, and the reduced ground clearance makes it really hug the turns. I can take a corner at about 25 MPH, and it's never left me on the side of the road.

Suggested Improvements

The bumpers make it look like it has an underbite. It needs constant tuning, because it is actually a sports coupe. Without that, it starts to get sluggish, if you call 0-30 in less than 2 seconds sluggish for a hatchback carrying about 4-500 LBS of weight load (passengers or other things)

Review

I bought this car 2 1/2 years ago at a little over 212k miles, and since then have put in a battery and alternator - that's reliability. If it hadn't been in an accident, it would still be on the road today...definately the best first car I ever could have asked for. My 94 Civic Si couldn't hold a candle to the 91's reliability, the 94's already had a timing belt, head gasket, water pump, thermostat, and brake calipers and pads (all 4), and I've only had it a year.

Favorite Features

Great gas mileage, no less than 38MPG, average around 40-41. As reliable as they come, and not made with 3/4 plastic like some cars are today. Best $500 I ever spent.

Suggested Improvements

More comfortable front seats would definately be a plus. Honda also should pay more attention to rust areas, my dad's 90 and my 91 and 94 all had rust spots just over the rear wheels, and the 90 and 91 had rust just under the "HONDA" on the trunk.

Review

I got the manual 5-speed new 15 years ago and it's still going strong. I love this car. It's responsive, has excellent road feel, is extremely reliable, it gets great mileage (see below), and visibility out the front and rear windshields is fantastic. There is tons of space in the back for hauling lumber, bookshelves, Newfoundlands, bicycles, etc. etc. Even when I rent new cars for travel, I'm relieved to come home to my DX. They don't make cars like this anymore. What will I eventually replace it with? There isn't a Civic hatch anymore. Maybe I won't have to replace it, given the miles reported by other reviewers... :-)

Favorite Features

Mileage: How can you beat 43mpg highway in the summer? I've been getting 37.2 mpg averaged over the past 5 years or so.

Review

My dad bought a 1990 civic si when I was not even two years old, I loved the car so much after I owned it and it was involved in an accident I spent a year finding my 1991 civic si. It's not hard to find a fast car, but it's hard to find an exciting car without spending a lot of money, it's reliable but it's the kind of car you will be smiling every time you step out of it. It may not be the fastest car, the sense of accomplishment you get driving the car to the edge is amazing. The springs are wound perfectly for the 14in tires and the sewing maching engine buzzing with all it's got is a sensation I wouldn't trade for the world.

Favorite Features

The old school tuner interior styling is a high point for me. the handling is amazing with it's duel wishbone and multilink suspension, and engine is free revving and has a smooth and precise transmission.

Suggested Improvements

Wheels and tires are a must for the performance driver, 205 tires brought a 1.09 laterial g to the car for me. a little more under the hood would be nice, with a JDM engine and 160hp car's 0-60 comes from 8.9 to 7.2sec power locks and usually a new radio is also a must. Other then that have fun.

Review

My first car was the STD model of this car, which I drove to 117k miles, sold and then bought the Si version at 108k miles from a good friend of mine. With the exception of two minor (only a few inches across) rust spots by the wheel well, this fourteen year old car still has the orig engine, clutch and tranny. I do NOT baby this car, I actually autocross it now, as well as driving it everyday. It's certainly more reliable than my 99 Volvo (with only 56k miles). Only slight wear to the side of the front seat (where I rub against getting in) otherwise interior is pristine. I haven't even changed all the light bulbs! I will NEVER sell this car.

Favorite Features

It's dammed peppy for 108hp. Insanely comfortable seats for an "economy" car. Still gets the same incredible gas mileage it got 14 years ago. Phenomenal view - I can see everything out the side, front, and rear (esp that SUV bearing down on me). It never breaks!!!!!

Suggested Improvements

Perhaps a bullet proof sunroof? Mine has leaked for quite sometime. But I know that's a pipe dream, and I use it almost every day. A bit more rustproofing on the exhaust, I've had a couple of B pipes and mufflers replaced, but it IS a low car (stock, not lowered)

Review

I've had this car for seven months, it has 163000 miles on and the only noise comes from one of the original wheelcaps, but I haven't changed it because I can't find the original ones. Everything works fine, power mirrors, windows, central lock, air conditioned etc. It's bit down powered compared to lighter newer cars like Hyundais of Nissans, but it is a lot more reliable and the design looks always cleaner and not as fast-dating as other makes. I'm planning to keep it until next year and then buy a newer Civic, maybe a 1996 or 97, but I know I'm gonna miss this one, maybe I'll sell it to my brother so it stays in the family!

Favorite Features

Every power feature: mirrors, windows, steering etc. Nice headroom inside, clean "sport- serious car" design, roughly built. Economic car.

Suggested Improvements

Keep building great cars, go back to the sport-y design of the '90s. More power.

Coming from a person who has been disappointed from previous cars, this is the best purchase you can make if your budget can only afford used cars. It's very responsive in a good way. The steering control is intense. It has started every time without hesitation. The engine bay is so basic, any procedures can be serviced by yourself, time consumingly. I paid $600 and the car had 135k and I've driven it out to165k and it's still going great. That's 30k for $600, a lease for that kinda mileage would be at least triple. This car will amaze you.

Favorite Features

Steering. Starting in cold weather. Hasn't stalled on me yet. Easily/cheaply repairable. 0-60 is in low 7s so you can blend in with traffic easily.

Suggested Improvements

better stock speakers and more comfortable seats.
