12/31/11 Update: Dumped our Accord too!

It's been a little over a month since trading my 2010 Accord Coupe V6 for a 2012 VW CC. I get lots of compliments on it. Drives really smooth. The tech is so much better. Bluetooth never worked correctly in the Accord. My payments and insurance is lower. Has nice blend of sporty and luxury. Hard to pull off. For the same price I definitely recommend it. I have a 2010 Accord with rear brake pads that are all but gone after 13,000 miles (per my dealership). I had problems deluxe with my japanese built car to find out the car was never destined for America but got here.. I purchased the pads myself and had my prefered repair shop turn the rotors and install the new pads...labor was about $140 and about $20 for the pads after rebate. A strongly worded letter faxed to Honda Customer Service did the trick for me a few months back (refer to my prior posts on this topic in this thread). I was able to recoup from Honda my out-of-pocket costs for pads and brake repair inside of a month. 2008 Accord Sedan EX-L V6 Navi: Just had annual PA inspection at 28K. Original rear brake pads deemed OK with 7 remaining. Had the tsd for the package shelf rattle done. i've got an 08 accord v6 ex-l w/o nav and have not ever had any brake issues. i replaced my factory set at 45,000 miles and am currently still on them at 75,000 miles. i am using honda brake pads too.

Your lucky , mine went at 7500 miles and I was told it was all my fault... I ripped the whole brake system out and put in everything new and not OEM.. An expense I didnt need but now I dont have to worry when my wife drives the car.

I don't know Mr Shiftright he said that he drives 97% highway and the brakes started screetching at 30,000 miles which is when he started to destroy the rotors. I would not make excuses for these Accords the brakes are crap. I had an 08 Accord and the brakes and rotors were shot at 19,000 miles. No more Honda's for me

I would tend to agree...changing brake pads at 40K is not really "premature". I know some cars go a lot further than that, but that doesn't mean they are giving you optimum braking performance. I could live with 40K brake pad changes...in fact, I do live with it (not a Honda).

I agree that today's maintenance and repairs are frequently changed,but for 30K or 40 K it is normal for a car to change the pads. Just remember that VSA works automatically all the time ,that even you can't notice that when brakes are in. That is a great deal on 2011 EX-L. Similar to the price i was given for 2010 when they are doing sale. Though 2011 cars were appearing on the lot at that time, salesman never tried to sell them. They kept on pushing 2010 vehicles with the presumption of low price. But with better bargain, one could have got 2011 for the same 2010 sale price.

I only had one car with with an oddball noise with the ac on - it was a ford escort with a manual transmission. If you had it in neutral with the clutch engaged, you would get a rattling called 'gear rattle' or 'gear rollover noise'. The AC lowered the idle speed just enough to show the condition. For information about the class action lawsuit regarding Honda brake pads go to: http://www.girardgibbs.com/hondabrakes.asp I filed a claim for my '08 accords rear brakes and received a check for $150 which was almost exactly the cost of the repair. Also, they use a new type of pad which is supposed to last at least 70K miles according to my Honda dealer

They asked for proof of payment for the repairs, and approved reimbursement of $160.00 the same day I faxed that proof in. I did not want to cut the rotors, but the repair shop said it need to be done. I hear you about the warping issue. As it stands now, I'm out about $160 to replace the pads, which is probably at least about $50 less than if I had the dealership do it ($169 plus tax, plus cut rotors). Around the 40 MPH that you mention the transmission is shifting into 5th gear right about the time VCM is shutting down 2 to 3 cylinders if you're feathering the throttle. I've heard that the fix for v6 oil consumption is to disable the variable cylinder management. I guess the lower cyl pressure at the rings on a disabled cyl allows more blowby. If I paid for it it better work. Just my opinion. It could be wrong just what I heard.
