Performance AND economy: It's about time
By ezhift5 on
2005 Honda Accord EX V-6 2dr Coupe (3.0L 6cyl 6M)
The test drive showed the strong performance inherent to the 240 HP V-6 coupled to the 6M. A trip thru the desert (LA to Phoenix) showed the surprising fuel efficiency. After 3.5 years 60k miles (on the OEM Michelins yet), the reliability has been only challenged a few times. Two pass. window regulators replaced under factory warranty. Ditto for a CEL dealing with a coolant sensor. I like the 6M but feel that "in-out" vague friction point clutch should try for more BMW-type feel. Other than that... best car I've ever owned.
Fuel efficiency + real hard acceleration potential just a tick away.
Noise intrusion remains somewhat front and center. New tires with great rack noise ratings await later this month. I'm hoping.
an update as of 7/19/2014: now at 140k, the 2005 Accord 6M coupe is still on the factory original plugs, pads, rotors and clutch.
MPG remains 25-26 in 65% highway use.
4 repairs to date: 2 window regulators plus a CEL for coolant sensor glitch were covered by the 3/36,000 factory warranty.
A VTEC oil pressure switch leak R&R cost me about $150 of my Naval Reserve pay.
..written more than two years ago........
An update would factor in the labor-intensive 105,000 service ($1113 - and that does not include Iridium spark plug replacement)...........
Bottom line is that fuel efficiency remains high - in fact - remember the original spark plugs remain in place - the numbers are even better following retiming to factory specs following timing belt replacement.
New Primacy MXV tires have replaced - at 68,500 miles - the OEM Michelin HX MXM4 rubber.
Noise intrusion had lessened.
Still the best car I've ever owned.
A bargain at $23.4.
