2004 Honda Accord EX V-6 2dr Coupe (3.0L 6cyl 6M)

Review

Purchased 2004 Honda Accord Ex-V6 new due to internet reviews. 1st Honda ever purchased. Worst car I have ever owned for road noise. Dealer worked road noise problem, but unable to correct road noise problem. 40,000 miles on car, started hearing pecking/knocking noise in engine. Honda dealer informed me that noise was #6 piston? Honda dealer explanation of piston noise was engine block might have out of tolerance machining during manufacturing and would cost $1300.00 for an inspection to verify. A 2nd independent certified mechanic opinion confirmed engine noise as #6 piston & not uncommon in Hondas. Not pleased with Honda quality or Honda customer support. First & last Honda I will own!

Favorite Features

Body design.

Suggested Improvements

Honda needs to correct known quality problems!

Review

I traded my '03 BMW 530i for this car in 2004 due to reliability issues. At the time, I really felt I was taking a step down. However, this is hands down the best car I've ever owned. What it loses in coolness, it makes up for with quality, comfort, economy, & bullet proof reliability. I have over 120K on it now. Apart from routine maint. it has needed nothing. Not a single thing. No squeaks, rattles. Interior materials top notch, wearing well. Engine actually has more pull now than when new & smooth as ever. Avg. 25mpg on regular. Have tried to come up with a reason to trade it in for a fancier car, but can't. Still offers more features than many new luxury makes in 2009.

Favorite Features

Navigation system, XM, easy user interface, heated seats, V6 performance on regular fuel, quality - will probably last much longer than I would want.

Suggested Improvements

None considering it's almost 5 years old and still has more features than many cars twice as expensive.

Review

I purchased my Honda based on the reliability of all reports I read. I had always owned Pontiacs in the past. I am extremely diligent with maintenance. A considerable expense with Honda. I had several problems that cost me additional repairs. Interior light problems, trim not staying on. Storage compartment door broke on 3 occasions. The navi system started acting up. The cost of the navi system was $2,000 when I purchased the car. Today I was told the system needed to be replaced for $5,351. Yet, the cost for a new 2009 Honda Accord with navi is still only approx $2000 more than w/out. What a gimmick! Be warned! Don't waste your money!

Favorite Features

I use to like the info system but that doesn't work anymore. Never does the pre-set stations on the radio.

Suggested Improvements

No more navi systems! Storage compartment needs work. The door would always get jammed.

Review

I have owned this V6 w/navi for over 4 yrs. and it is extremely reliable, great gas mileage w/V6 and powerful. I do have suggestions for improvement for the very near future. When this model was introduced, it lacked fog lights which I installed with a Honda OEM kit. I can't live without these lights! Another very important improvement for this car and the newest models ('09), would be an 8-way power seat for the front passenger. The front seats are angled or sloped downward at the back too much and make it very uncomfortable for people with back problems. An 8-way adjustment would solve this! I ended up lifting the back of the seat upwards with longer bolts and shims. Otherwise a fine car.

Favorite Features

Build quality, reliability, great V6 gas mileage!

Suggested Improvements

Better seats (more padding), relocating seat heater switches up to the dash, fog lights as standard equipment and 8-way power seat instead of the 4-way for the front passenger.

Review

GOOD: Best car I have ever owned - does everything well. Good compromise between handling and ride comfort (after new tires, read below). Extremely reliable and well built. Can't live without the navigation system - best I have used. Touch screen makes it easy to enter data while creeping along in city traffic. With many nav systems you must be in park or be stopped to operate, but not with this one. XM radio is voice operated. Intuitive controls. Separate driver-side and passenger-side set-and-forget temperature control. BAD: No sex appeal. Not bluetooth compatible. With automatic, easy to accidentally select third gear (D3) instead of fifth (D).

Favorite Features

Navigation system. XM radio. Roll down all windows with key fob. Powerful yet miserly engine runs on regular unleaded.

Suggested Improvements

Factory provided Michelin Energy tires lose grip well before chassis does and adds road noise. New aftermarket Michelin Primacy tires fixed this problem. Recommend you go to Honda dealer and get DuPont paint finish treatment (like a wax). Had mine for 4 years, and have not needed to wax car once.

I brought my Accord new and have not any problems with the car. My son used when he went away to college then my daughter. The two complaints I have with the car are: 1. The clear coat is coming off and Honda will not own up to the problem even dealerships acknowledge that there is a problem with the paint job from the factory. 2. The other problem is the brakes started to squeal after about 30000 miles on it. I have replaced brake pads and still will not go away.

Favorite Features

Fun car to drive, great fuel mileage, and even though it is 4 cyl car it has a lot of pep to it

Suggested Improvements

Honda owns up to known problems and fix them.

Review

I traded in my '96 Accord EX 4dr for an '04 Honda Accord LX 4dr, with the 5-speed automatic and I love it! Yeah, I miss my sunroof, but the overall performance, gas mileage, and reliability outweigh the missing sunroof. I have had no trouble with this vehicle since I purchased it. It had about 16,000 miles on it when I got it earlier this year. Now it has about 31,000 and still riding trouble free. The one thing I do not like is the blind spots in this car. I've had a 2000 Accord LX and a 1996 Accord EX and the visibility in those was great. In this car, not so much. It's like aiming a land yacht sometimes when parking. However, this is still the best one I've had.

Favorite Features

Power everything without the EX price. Keyless entry system built into the key. The interior controls and instrument cluster. The Europeanesque key or keyless entry power window open feature for those hot days.

Suggested Improvements

BLIND SPOTS are a big issue. It can be a pain to park.

Review

My first car was a 1996 Accord EX-L. I got this one 4 years ago after a horrendous experience with a Trailblazer. It has been a blast. Good handling and acceleration. Ride is neither too harsh nor too soft. Excellent fit and finish. In typical Honda fashion, all controls are well laid out and easy to use. Leather is of excellent quality. Navigation system is excellent and easy to use. Voice command is also great. Fuel economy is excellent. I average about 24.5 mpg in mixed driving. The best I have gotten on the highway is 34. That is great for a 240hp V6. XM is great for long drives. Road noise is a bit pronounced but definitely not too intrusive.

Favorite Features

Navigation, XM, V6, Leather, Voice command

Suggested Improvements

Aux. jack, bluetooth, auto dimming mirror, memory seats, illuminated steering wheel controls. And that is really nit picking. The car in 2004 was far ahead of its time. The technology is just about on par for the 2008 model year. Honda corrected all of those shortcomings in the 2008 redesign.

Review

Just bought this car but I love it already! Originally I was going to purchase a Mazda 6, but this is a far better investment. Not only is the Accord a safe family car, but it's fun to drive, and you can't beat the gas mileage (32 mpg). I feel better knowing that 5 years from now my car will actually have a good resale value (if I choose to sell it) and it will still be in good condition.

Favorite Features

* The new body style of the Accords.. (more mature, lots of room in backseat) * Large trunk * Gas mileage

Suggested Improvements

* Better sound system * Smoother brake system

Review

Since I bought the vehicle it has had a new trans and a new driver's seat, and a new radio. Now I need to replace the head liner. You don't expect these things to happen to a high quality car. Will not perchase another one.

Favorite Features

The best thing about the vehicle was the sound system.

Suggested Improvements

To improve on everything that I had trouble with on the vehicle.
