I have a 2011 Camry base, and am going to drive 2012 Accord LX, and Civic LX sedans to compare. I bought the Camry spur of the moment, good deal. Was always more of a Honda person, as well. Had a new 2010 Prius, but although I thought it was cool, and I liked it, it got boring to drive. Also, didn't get the advertised 50mpg in the winter when I ... Read More
As you mentioned, the timing belt needs to be replaced at 7yrs OR 105k miles, whichever comes first. My dad just had the timing belt replaced on his 2007 Accord SE V6 4-door (and he pushed it to 127k miles) and it was around $600 at a local independent repair shop. Honda had some extensive transmission problems, especially with the V6/5AT combo, in the early 2000s. The 2003-2004 Accords were part ... Read More
Hard to believe that my brand new 2004 Accord purchased in August, 2003, is over 4 years old already. When I was car-shopping, this website was decidedly helpful in telling me what people were paying for their new Accords. My uncle shopped around for a better price to replace the timing belt on his 2004 Accord V6. He felt $1000 was waaaayyyy too much for the job. He found another Honda dealer on the other side of town that was running a coupon special that listed replacement of the timing belt, water pump, serpentine belt and coolant for a V6 Honda Accord for $479 + local tax. It took a ... Read More
No, but they were on all Accords that had leather seats (EX-L models), which the car in question did. All 2005 and later Accords had side curtain airbags.
Actually side curtain airbags weren't on all 2004 Accords either.
I've shopped for both lately and can tell you that the Fusions are going for about the same as Accords of the same year. Having driven the 2006 Fusion, I'd pick an Accord any day. The Fusion handles fine, but the 4 cylinder is weak and noisy. The car just doesn't feel like it's in the same league as the Accord. More recent Fusions may be better, and the Accord definitely ... Get the Accord, if for no other reason that it has side curtain airbags and the Fusion doesn't. Accords at 94,000 miles are as tight or tighter than a Fusion at half the mileage. Plus your heart already told you that you want the Accord -- now with the safety bonus your head will go along, too.
As an insurance agent, I get this sort of question all the time. Customers will ask my opinion on what vehicle they should get for their teenage kids. I keep a list of cars to recommend based (in order of importance) on safety, reliability, performance (as in "lack of") and fuel economy. It amazes me how many parents gravitate toward SUVs (especially mid/full-sized ones) thinking they're the best choice of vehcile ... Read More
I'm going to agree with your suggestion - that's a big mileage difference for the same general price. Here's an added thought: Check with your insurance company. If this is your first car, my guess is that you're young. It is likely that a coupe with all of the toys is going to cost you more in insurance. I know that's true for my 19 yr old daughter. She bought a ... Read More
I would look for a Fusion with the options and color you want. You would still get a younger and lower miles example compared to an Accord at the same price. I personally NEVER suggest a used Honda. To me, they just aren't worth the money.
Hi im looking for my first car and came across a 2006 ford fusion s with 53,000 miles in red. My second option is a 2004 honda accord 2 door coupe ex with 94,000 miles in dark grey. My choice would be the accord because its fully loaded, (leather, sunroof, heated seats, rims, spoiler etc.) and its my preffered color. The fusion has almost half the miles but its a basic ... As you have already discovered, '05-'06 Accord EX sedans with 5-speed manual are not easy to find. According to his Service Manager, owners of the 2003-2007 Accord EX with the 5-speed manual keep their cars much longer than average. The ... Read More
Hi all: I'm interested in a used Honda Accord EX sedan, manual transmisssion, 4 cylinder, and am wondering how significant the differences are between the 2005 and 2006 versions. I agree that the dealership service department can be a rip-off. If you were an original owner, you would have gotten one of these. It's a cheap fix, now that they aren't changing the entire radio. Just the Printed Curcuit Board. You should be able to get reimbursed for the charge on the first radio.
This is NOT isolated. Mine went out two years ago. Honda did have a recall, but only for a certain VIN number (and mine wasn't one of them). I called them and they will not do a darn thing about it and I won't buy another Honda again.
I bought a 2003 Honda Accord Coupe EX 4-Cylinder and 2 years after I bought it the radio light went out. Only the 4 cylinder models have chains. I found that quite nice since the chains require less maintenance than the belts, but I can't speak to long-term repairs because I only have 73,000 miles and the car is 7 years old. I got it when it was 4 years old with 36k.
I have an '05 EX-L and I have a timing chain. I thought that this body style all had timing chains. I have 95,000 miles. What have you had to do to yours in 185,000?
I thought 4 cyl Accords of this generation had a timing chain. Thus no belt replacement. Was I wrong? 03 EX V6, which has a timing belt. The car only has 75k miles on it, but it will be 7 years old in September. I still have time to study up for the challenge. I will be ready.
You would be correct. The 4 cylinder has the chain 6 cylinder has a belt. If I recall correctly elroy has an 05 SE 6-cylinder. Of course I may be wrong. If it is a similar cost to my old Accord (95 4-cyl) it'd run about $700, that is if you're talking about the 6-cylinder.

If the car says to use 5w20, I would use 5w20 until it started burning it excessively or something. Cars are designed to run at a certain optimal oil pressure, and increasing the viscosity may increase the oil pressure (think of it like blood thickeners and blood pressure). In some cars, useing 10w40 instead of 5w30 can result in blowing oil filters off the engine.
I, personally, would stick with the recommended 5W-20. I just got mine changed at Tires Plus with a 5W-20 synthetic blend and it seems to be running great. Then again I'm only at 72k miles.

Thanks for the link to the product on Amazon. Seems this is what I need to get my for installing in my wife's 2007 Accord w/ navigation. My sister's the main driver of the 2004 Accord w/ Navigation, but that has a tape player installed in it so I think she can make due w/ the tape adapter. I really liked the review by TechGuyBill on this item: "I ordered a ... Read More
How do you change a serpentinve belt on the 2004 Honda Accord 4 cyinder engine?
I use my left foot in all my vehicles
I have done the same thing when I was interstate driving. I would go to brake and hit the accelerator by accident. It took me a minute to get my foot in the right place--on the brake. The pedals are small and close together.
If you are talking new Passat Sedans...they are automatic only for 09 on out. If you are talking Passat CC, only the base "Sport" model is avaiable with a manual. I went and tried building an Altima 2.5S with pkgs similar to mz6user's...it seems the only option you can get on the Altima 2.5S now is the Convenience pkg. The Convenience pkg and the Connection pkg (new to the 2.5S w/o ... Read More
It is very possible to push the accelerator, while pushing the brake pedal. I've done it before myself in my 03. Luckily I wasn't close enough to anything to hit it. When this happens, you are putting so much more pressure on the brake pedal, than the Accelerator, that you don't really feel it. You just hear the engine rev, then quickly try to reposition your foot. From what I've heard ... Read More
I was pulling into a parking space and my car suddenly lurched forward. The car seemed to want to accelerate suddenly. Everyone claims they did not have their foot on gas but I really don't think I did...
I'm replying to my last post I made in this thread regarding tire activity on my 2004 Honda Accord EX 4 cylinder. It was made on 9/14/08 when my car was almost at 118k miles. I had went with a band-aid fix at the time to replace two tires and am now at a point where I need to replace all four tires. My car is now at just a little ... Read More
Back in 2004, I got the previous gen EX-L V6 model for $24K + TTL, an excellent price at the time. Maybe back on November, when the whole world seemed to be at an end, you had a shot at a better price, but now, considering the price for the newer model, the discount you are getting is even better than what I got.
I'm currently building a car that I plan to drive daily AND enter into car shows and magazines. I hate the engine that comes standard in the vehicle so I plan to do an engine swap. I was planning to buy a Nissan v6 engine because I love its torque at lower rpm's. However I read where people were having problems with the 2.5 Nissan engine. How are the 3.5 Nissan ... Read More
2004 Honda Accord LX v6 now has 254,688 miles... knock on wood, car still runs well... still averaging 30 plus miles to the gallon, with most miles being highway driving... i continue to change the oil and Honda oil filter every 4,000 miles... would recommend changing the cabin air filter every 20,000 miles here in the South, or anyplace where the pollen count runs high... had been changing the engine air ... I know Odyssey vans had transmissions replaced by Honda well beyond the 3/36. My friend with an Acura 3.2 CL (2001) had his tranny replaced by Acura (Honda) at over 90k miles. Paid nothing. I would expect Honda to do the same for my 03 Accord V6, were the tranny ever to fail (knocks on wood). I haven't seen anything in writing, however, saying they have to.
Uh oh, did I get it confused? I know Odyssey vans had transmissions replaced by Honda well beyond the 3/36. My friend with an Acura 3.2 CL (2001) had his tranny replaced by Acura (Honda) at over 90k miles. Paid nothing. I thought the warranty was pushed out with a recall. Oops.
2003 and early 2004 models with the V6 have a known transmission problem, therefore the warranty on them was greatly extended. It would be nice to have the piece of mind, but I haven't heard about this "greatly extended warranty". Please fill me in grad. Far as I know, the only warranty extension on my 03 V6 is the audio screen dimming thing. The warranty on everything else ended at 3/36. ... Read More
Just buy a 4 cylinder! You'll get better gas mileage anyway. :D
