This is not a new issue. I have a 2003 Accord that gave horrible brake issues when new. It did settle down after rotors were replaced and discs twice before 12000 miles, but I have that familiar wobble on the steering right now at 77,000 miles again. My daughters LX2000 suffers the same issue - I thought it was the way we drove!!!
As you mentioned, the timing belt needs to be replaced at 7yrs OR 105k miles, whichever comes first. My dad just had the timing belt replaced on his 2007 Accord SE V6 4-door (and he pushed it to 127k miles) and it was around $600 at a local independent repair shop. Honda had some extensive transmission problems, especially with the V6/5AT combo, in the early 2000s. The 2003-2004 Accords were part ... Read More
Hard to believe that my brand new 2004 Accord purchased in August, 2003, is over 4 years old already. When I was car-shopping, this website was decidedly helpful in telling me what people were paying for their new Accords. I think my deal was favorable because I knew what to accept as a fair transaction price. For the benefit of San Francisco Bay area people, a friend just bought a 2008 ... Read More
In NYC, I paid 130 dollars to replace the cabin filter, until I realized how easy it is (2005)Accord. Now there is no Honda dealer in Manhattan itself, I think because the land value for building is so high, I think the owner of the dealership sold out for that reason. I can understand how dealers need to charge, but some prices are meant to rip off the consumer and pocket ... Read More
go to the youtube website and type in "2003-2007 honda accord engine air filter replacement". it should show you how to change it. also can look for changing the cabin filter, behind the glove compartment, that is a breeze to do if you know how. they should both be on youtube. hope this helps!
I've shopped for both lately and can tell you that the Fusions are going for about the same as Accords of the same year. Having driven the 2006 Fusion, I'd pick an Accord any day. The Fusion handles fine, but the 4 cylinder is weak and noisy. The car just doesn't feel like it's in the same league as the Accord. More recent Fusions may be better, and the Accord definitely ... As an insurance agent, I get this sort of question all the time. Customers will ask my opinion on what vehicle they should get for their teenage kids. Try David McDavid Honda in Irving. I had my friend's brother that used to work there and they always gave me $500 below invoice on Civics and Accords. I have done my own maintenance on my Accord since the dealer wanted $500 for the 30k service. It was dramatically different than the one listed in the owner's manual. You can get an original Honda starter (online) for $375, list price is $480. Remanufactured starters run around $150 but a Honda dealer probably would not install one. Any one who owns a 2003 Honda Accord v6 I strongly recommend getting extended warranty. I got one when i bought it and it saved me around 3000 $ on a transmission replacement. My car only had 73000 miles.
As you have already discovered, '05-'06 Accord EX sedans with 5-speed manual are not easy to find. My cousin is General Manager of a large Honda dealership here in Georgia and he recently gave me some insight into why they are so scarce on the used car market. Hi all: I'm interested in a used Honda Accord EX sedan, manual transmisssion, 4 cylinder, and am wondering how significant the differences are between the 2005 and 2006 versions. Having driven a four cylinder automatic 2003 Honda Accord, (for 3+ years), I have a basis of comparison between the Malibu's four cylinder and that of the Honda. Well its just an opinion, relatively speaking. You picked out one year (2003) but the generation, as a whole, is pretty solid. And from 2003, transmissions were the biggest issue so that skews things a bit.

Or, is there another web site that provides such statistics? Anecdotal conjecture? That would be great if there's a good source for the statistics on auto problems. My previous Accord was a 2003. The transmission was recalled but other than that we ... Read More
The previous generation (2003-2006) was probably one of the worst generations of Accords in years. I would like to know what is wrong with my 03 Accord? That is not apparent to me.
The previous generation (2003-2006) was probably one of the worst generations of Accords in years. What makes you say that? That generation went to 2007, for the record... I think it was one of the best. It had a roomy interior without being a land-barge in exterior size. It was light for its class, making its engines feel like they produce more power than they did. The 4-cylinder models top 35 ... Read More
It's hit or miss. Honda's quality is no where near what it used to be. Honda is living off "word of mouth" and loyal customers from the past. If you go to many car complaint websites, you'll see that there are more Honda complaints compared to many other manufacturers. The previous generation (2003-2006) was probably one of the worst generations of Accords in years. Honda seriously needs to look at themselves ... Read More
My 2003 Accord had been displaying a diagnostic trouble code P0420 - Catalyst Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1). I had the catalytic converter replaced to the tune of $1,000 only to have the malfunction indicator light come back on when the weather got cold again. A search by my mechanic on ALLDATA turned up a service bulletin (03-063) dated September 23, 2003. The check engine light is due to the ECM/PCM ... Read More
My '02 had the platinums. They were spec'd to change at 105k. I changed 'em at 90k and 2 of them were tight. 6 year change interval in the future for me. Honda may have switched to iridiums in '03. I just don't want to take a chance on seized plugs.
I just put back what came out. I'm pretty sure the original plugs are Iridium tipped. The platinum plugs have the same part #, but are not "long life" 100k mile plugs. If I was going to replace the original iridiums with platinum, I would not do it until 100k miles.
I'm not the wrench that you are,E. I therefore practice "defensive wrenching". I just put back what came out. Lol. Enjoy the race.
The platinum cost less than the iridium plugs, but they are not "long life" (100k mile) plugs..
I would change them out at 7 years. Replace them with the oem plug. NGK platinum? Use anti seize compound and carefully torque them. You are good for another 6/7 years.
The long-life iridium tipped NGK or Denso plugs are about $12 each, so it will cost about $50 for 4. You can get them at most auto parts stores. If you were thinking about replacing them with a cheaper plug, imo you would be better off leaving the originals in there for the duration.
The car is almost 7 years old. Was wondering if anyone out there thinks it would be worth it or wise to replace the spark plugs? Fuel economy has dropped but the car only has 83,000 kms on it. I've heard the NGK plugs last until 160,000 kms. Thoughts? or is replacing plugs a waste of time? Spark plugs start degrading the first time they are used. Contemporary plugs use much ... Read More
Just wanted peoples opinions on replacing the spark plugs for a 2003 Honda Accord EX-L I4. The car is almost 7 years old. Before the days of the Nanny minder, Honda's recommended oil change schedule for my 2003 Accord 4 cylinder was every 5,000 miles for severe conditions, and 10,000 miles for regular conditions. I personally like to do mine every 5,000 miles (roughly) and or, annually as I put on 5,000 to 7,000 miles a year
In terms of your V6 versus I4 question- I owned a 2008 Accord EX coupe with the 190 hp 4 cylinder engine up until May of this year when I traded it for a 2009 Accord EX-L V6 coupe. Personally, I felt that the 190 hp 4 cylinder was underpowered for the size/weight of the car and didn't have as much "ooomph" as my first Honda (a 2003 Accord LX 4 ... Read More
Those should be best seats. Honda are built to last You have to try BMW or WV seats. If you try BMW sport seats you will be dumping your accord in 10 secs. Lots of honda 2001-2003 year auto trans behind 7/100K miles warranty and people paying 3-4.5K for new one... build to last, huh? :P
