If the overheating is only at low speed or idle than you have an AIR circulation problem, not a coolant circulation problem--so it seems like this is about the cooling fans, not the thermostat, radiator, water pump, etc.

Also replaced the thermostat sensor with an autoparts store sensor. Basically, as far as the sensor and thermostat goes, I used local autoparts store parts, instead of Honda parts. I'm not surprised that you've not had any trannie problems. It was in the years 1999 through and including 2001 that Honda trannie problems surfaced. The reason given by a Honda dealer is that Honda farmed out the transmission manufacturing to a Japanese vendor during the years mentioned above. As a result of poor quality, Honda returned to in-house manufacturing. Hence the transmission recalls.

Has your brake fluid ever been changed? My guess is after a fair amount of braking, the water absorbed into the fluid over time starts to boil. When the fluid starts to boil, it expands causing the calliper to close on the brake disk, over heating everything. After the car has been sitting, the fluid has cooled, the calliper releases again, and the wheel will spin freely. If your brake fluid ... Read More

In the case of my ignition switch, it had already been replaced under a previous recall for the ignition switch. The dealer said they would only replace it once. The symptoms started up sometime over 93K miles but wouldn't replicate for the dealer and most other shops. I had checked the Honda site and there weren't any recalls other than the one that had already replaced the ignition switch.
